Car leasing

Also approach a dealer just to get a feel. For my lease on the Alfa I managed to get £30 off per month through Fiat Finance (FGA) compared to the likes of Lings, Nationwide etc.

With allowance and milegae claims you can just about contract hire at no cost

Allowance = £2350 after tax
Mileage at 40p/mile x 10k = £4000
Mileage at 22p/mile x 15k = £3300

Total per year = £9650

Fuel cost per year (45mpg) = £3300
Insurance = £1000
Service / maintenance /tyres = £1500 (over-estimate)
Tax = £200

Amount to lease car per year = £3700 or approx £300 / month

Some helpful advice above guys - thanks. Gave me a better idea.

Regarding the last poster, - I did have the mileage costs in the back of my mind but putting it down on paper highlights it much better. Thanks.

I've come across this deal;

Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi 16v (92bhp) SR Hatchback 5dr 1560cc (Diesel, Manual, Non-metallic)

£250 per month, 20k mileage, 3 years.

Should I be looking harder?

Not looking for anything glam, just something that will provide me trouble free motoring! I'd ideally prefer a 2 year deal but hey ho.

£10k over 3 years (Assuming 3+36) to hire a crap diesel Peugeot with 92bhp?

lolololol. I'd rather buy a £2k Volvo.

Do you have an idea of what I should be looking to get then?

My only real criteria is a Diesel of some sort (preferably a hatch?)

Or is just just tell tale of car leasing and would you guys shy away from it?

I can probably get a nice second car in a couple of months as the girlfriends main car, so I really am only fussed about having a reliable motor, preferably where I don't have to **** a brick every time the MOT comes around :p:o:(

92bhp!!!! jesus - not sure I could do 20k miles a year in a car with 92 bhp!

Why not? 20K miles a year sounds like mostly motorway miles and a 92BHP diesel will happily sit at 70MPH on the motorway all day. Granted it might not be the fastest car up to 70 and overtaking on a hill might be fun but hey surely you would just change your driving style to match the car. The Golf Bluemotion is only 105BHP and you see lots of them on the motorway.

I actually quite enjoyed reading that website, some of the comparisons it has are awesome -

Price to the right equiv. to just 35.1 Big Macs a day!

get bigger car & diet!

you can scorch from 0-60mph in just 4.7 seconds! If you keep going (downhill) (with a following wind) (avoiding the radar traps) you will bust 180mph!!! This may affect your licence and getting points means the insurance on this group 0 car might jump!

It's fun to compare new car cost to lung cancer!
Cost of my Aston Martin V8 Vantage Coupe is the same as smoking 312 "Kennedys" per day...

I didn't mind having a company car. Everything is taken care of, no bills, insurance or repairs to pay. If some idiot crashes into you or damages the car the company sorts it. Mind you at the time I was doing 22k miles per year just to get to work and back. Never mind any travel in between.

Yes it may not be the cheapest way to motor but it was nice and easy.

This thread relates to private leasing and contract hire, he is given an allowance to source his own car? The op says in the opening post that there is no scheme at work and he has to source privately?
