Car park accident

sounds like a result, 3rd party insurer will know how much extra it costs when the other insurer deals with it instead of them so sounds like they are splitting the difference to save themselves a few quid as well.

Pretty much this - if they're handling it all, they have full control over the costs, if your insurer (or an accident management company are), then the 3rd party insurer have their hands tied. The £500 "incentive" to you is probably only a day's worth of the inflated hire charges they would otherwise be paying!

counterpoint the 'deal' via the suzuki company was nonetheless them doing the fixes, providing parts, for the car - familiarity and knowledge of the car can make repairs much more efficient,
only found last week that manufacturer garage (Audi) have better diagnostics on their own cars than others - if you know where the problem is likely to be - that saves a lot of time.
(clearly no one appraised the documentation on the suzuki service)

Dealers cant do bodywork. If it involves any painting/bodywork, they farm it out to an approved repairer.

The reality is also that most body panels are OEM anyway outside of enthusiast cars which get modded.

This.
When I had a similar scenario... Mine was parked on the road outside my house, another driver crashed into it... Their insurance admitted liability straight away.

I'd initially contacted my insurer.. Who insisted I engage some management company and were also giving me the runaround providing a hire car.

So I just cancelled my claim and went direct with the 3rd party insurers.
I had a brand new Mercedes c200 sport on my doorstep in under 24hrs.

Which I kept until I received a cheque from them... My car was not too badly damaged but deemed an economic write off.

And the first settlement offer was fair market value for my car.. So it was really nice and easy.

This is another reason why car insurance is so expensive. If your own insurance company can't be arsed to deal it they know there's no money in it for them (or they insure both parties).

Does someone who drives a pre-Jesus Nissan Micra really need a Mercedes C200 Sport as a hire car? It should be like-for-like to keep everyone's premiums down.

The shortage of parts is causing big delays in repairs so the hire car can get stupid and we all pay for it.

Oh my sweet summer child.. you have it all backwards...

1) At that time, my car that was written off was a volvo v70 5 cylinder 2.4l petrol turbo.

2) It was far cheaper for the 3rd parties insurers to 'look after me', as if I had have gone through my insurers, they would have rinsed the 3rd parties insurers for a hell of a lot more than hiring a Merc for two weeks and paying me out a fair market price for my car.

3) And you can guarentee if i'd have gone through my insurers they also would have argued the toss with me and tried to low-ball me on the payout for my written off car.

Doing it like this saves everyone time and money. Back to school for you!

Lol, yeah whatever. You do realise my post was aimed at all claims in general where the hire car is disproportional and was in no way directed to you in particular apart from quoting your post as an example.

Thanks anyway for the schooling (but not in spelling or grammar :D ).
