Car polish/wax

Solid black or metallic? How bad is the condition? What year and model car is it. Black is a very tough paint to deal with generally in my experience, if it’s bad you can get OK results by hand but you can get awesome results with a polishing machine.

metallic....insignia

its not bad, just needs lifting

I strongly recommend getting a machine - you don't need a super expensive all singing all dancing one, mine was £60.

This is everything I used:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FCLLLXK Polisher

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DKYBK0C Finish

I can see some bits where I can improve for next time, but for a first whack I'm pretty impressed with the results.

There's a massive detailing thread here somewhere, probably has loads of info in it.

For wax - Collinite 476 super double coat wax (physical wax) not water wax (end thread) , lasts ages and water beads right off, great shine, great protection and lasts about 4-5 months before you have to re-apply. After you have coated your car in it, for your follow on washes just use some PH netural snow foam and give it a once over with a jetwash, dont need to hand wash it. Great in the summer and winter, in the winter the water just beads up in to big balls and rolls off the car as soon as it hits the car

For polish - Merguiers ultimate compound

Collinite is really good but if left on a little too long without buffing it off is the biggest swine in all car detailing. You basically have to lay it on super thin and do one panel at a time or two max and buff it off before it fully sets.
I made the mistake of doing an entire car before buffing and that day still burns in my memory.
