Car respray

Please please please, for the sake of being a man... get half a clue about cars... it's what we're supposed to know!

Alarm bells did ring when you say an £800 Polo though

Maybe upon having a car I will get a clue about them! :D

The price was only so low because of the appearance and because a dealership bought it!

Take it back, let them sort it for you as they have to give you a warranty on it.

Its simply the price the dealership paid, that low because of the scratches. Average price is £2800, obviously if they sold it though they would need to make profit (my dad works at the dealership hence buying it at the price they paid)
Not bought it yet, dad just drove home to take a closer look.

Platinum Wet Sand

This is the one if you want perfection and KDS can produce this. This is the pinnacle of detailing, for the ultimate finish, this is the one to choose. We will completely wet sand the whole car using 4 different grades of sanding paper, thus removing all orange peel from the entire vehicle. Then machine polished back to reveal that flawless finish. This would be the choice for any vehicle that’s is the ultimate show winning car .

Time taken : 90-200hrs (min 14 day booking)

Price from : Small: £2200, Medium: £2800, Large: £3400, X-Large/4x4: £4000

May as well get the car resprayed for that price

You don't want to respray that, just get it running nicely and use it to learn to drive for a year or so until you can afford something better. :)

Leave it for a few days without starting it. If it wont turn over or is slower than normal then you have a duff battery.

If it is not the battery it could be a huge number of things. Any idea of it's service history? Some receipts may have recommendations on them that could relate to the problem.

Mhm, a good detailer ( who can also wet sand if necessary )would be able to make the car look brand new.

Just take it here:

http://www.kdskeltec.co.uk/

his prices are bit of a rip off, he's probably good but what is it with detailers and there prices nowadays? for anything requiring full on correction the price is a joke. Most cars that have a detail could do with correction work and his normal detail prices are steep aswell.

He's taking a leaf out of Dalton's book and charging it because he can.

At the end of the day he delivers perfection, and theres no shortage of rich supercar owners willing to pay him. So why shouldn't he ?

Just means that average joes with £800 polo's have to go elsewhere. But people like Kelly and Paul Dalton would probably rather you did anyway, to leave them free to detail stuff Like Ferrari's and Aston Martins

Looks like the dealership ripped someone off to get a 06 polo for 800 quid even with a few probs.

"One careful lady owner" I'm sure :D

Just leave it, give it a wash and a polish and have a cheap car that you won't feel bad about giving the occasional scuff yourself.

Did you get it running ok?

I worry to think about what her brand new TT is going to look like!

To be fair thats my thought process instead of spending money on it, especially as a 1st cheap car. My dad will disagree though - if anything, do something in a few years time when I'm selling it.

Going to try get it running in an hour or two.

Let your dad pay to fix the paintwork then.

To be honest, it's probably not as bad as you think - respray the bonnet and touch up/smart repair the rest - a grand or less would have it looking infinitely better. But then if you did that, how annoyed would you be when you inevitably scuff it on a high kerb or a mate opens the door into a wall? Is the interior in a similar state?

Until you know what sort of condition it's in mechanically, there's no point even thinking about the paintwork

Exactly, mechanically is what we need to find out about.

I haven't looked at the interior much, nothing struck out apart from the driver side door lever to tilt the seat to get into the back was missing. Need to have a look today.

Prob just needs a new battery & a service what with it standing & the real cold weather lately. Epic buy for 800 quid though & as for the body there's quite a lot you can do yourself to take your eye off it but as you got it so cheap I'd ask your Dad if he knows anybody in the trade that would sort it all out for 500 quid or less, Use it for 6 months then get the body done after you've knocked it about yourself.
