Car stolen....

Master blaster, smoke and strobe. Wire the doors to lock after 5mins of being driven.

You’ll find your car 5mins away looking like a night club, I would like to know what would happen to anyone inside the car. Can imagine it won’t be nice.

And a tazer in to the seat lining.

As above, just say you only got one key with it. The keyless entry thing is the only thing putting me off the Mrs having a new fiesta st (although her current focus st also has keyless). As much as it pains me to say it, I would much rather they take the car then break in.

The car has keyless entry. I did think about ordering another one but did not want to risk insurance fraud.

the rear window was broken.

I only just got it back because the insurance company was incompetent. First they did not collect the car from the police for several weeks and then just sat on it after that.

They found they guys DNA in the car who stole it but he just had a statement ready saying yes I remember being in a silver fiesta so the could not charge him.

This situation sucks, compounded by the insurance company being douches about it :(

Remember when Police did real work and didn't wait for crimes to fall in their laps?

Try living in South Yorkshire.

Police here are complicit in crime here, just ask 1500 CSE victims..

I've personally witnessed officers ignoring crimes happening in front of them (albeit minor) because they were heading back to the station.

That's crap about the insurance. I would suggest fighting that otherwise you will in the future have to answer 'yes' when asked if there has even been a refusal to pay insurance.

On the matter of the key whats the safest way to leave your keylesss entry fob when in the house? Will a tin box with a lid work?

Just buy one of the actual key holders that are made to block the signals.

A tin probably wont

Remember when people didn't blame the police for CPS charging decisions?

No, me neither.

It's not always the CPS that are to blame.

I had parts stolen off my car some time ago, phoned Police and no-one ever turned up to deal with the issue.

They are probably too busy being goons for TV licence :)

Yet in this instance they recovered the car, examined it for forensic evidence, found a match and identified a suspect. If the available evidence in the case put forward by the police won't support a charge there's not much more they can do.

All very true, emotions got the better of me as I have never had good interactions with the Police - there was the issue I mentioned above and another instance whereby another Plod was correcting me about the wattage of the amps I had after I had my car broken into and a lot of expensive items stolen, rather than doing his ******* job and recording the items that were stolen.

In this instance, you are correct :)

There's been a few cases of those Faraday pouches not working either, some of the poorer quality ones still leak signal out, although not enough for you to actually unlock the car with it yourself. The thieves must be using some really high-gain equipment.

If someone really wants your car and they are smart, they just use a very simple jam/replay attack which no faraday pouch can prevent. Car keys are often very cheaply made, so are often transmitting in the harmonics powerfully enough to be detected. All you have to then do is jam the main frequency while listening in on the harmonic frequencies. That will stop the car unlocking but will give you a valid unlock code. The car won't unlock though, so the user presses the unlock button again. This time, you transmit the code you stored while storing the code the key just transmitted. Any time you then want to unlock the car, you just trigger the transmission of the stored code yourself and off you go.

The most modern keyless entry type systems are also vulnerable to this sort of thing but requires a lot more specialist finesse.

Ultimately, the best protection from car theft is adequate insurance (and ofc meeting the terms of that insurance to ensure it is valid).

Seems that the most elegant solution to making keyless fobs more secure would be to add an accelerometer or tilt sensor, so they don't transmit when the fob is sat still in your house. I don't know if any manufacturers are doing this yet though.
