Although I have no idea when the hell I'm going to do it. since I started my new job I have been working 6-7days every week. Before this job I found it hard to find time without booking a few weeks of in the summer. Now it's imposable. Just hope I can get another promotion next year then I will bite the bullet and splash the cash to get someone else to do the work.

I can't decide. Either...

1) Buy E39 M5

or

1) Retrofit 16:9 Navigation System
2) Eisenmann Exhuast system
3) Gruppe-M air intake
4) 255bhp Remap
5) M5 mirrors

Get alternator belt done (Friday)
Get rear bumper sprayed (22nd)
Fit new front shock, and maybe change the springs whilst I'm at it
Change plugs
Sort out the stone chips on the bonnet
Decide what to do with the alloys before the tyre tread runs out

Thats it I think

You know it would be wrong not to go with the M5. :)

What is the BHP/Torque figures on these and fuel like compared to yours (540?) ?

It's massively more expensive in every possible way. It just depends what I'm doing in a years time really.

M5 is 400bhp, 0-60 4.9, 0-100 12.5, 22mpg combined.
530i is 231bhp, 0-60 6.6, 0-100 17, 30mpg combined.

Considerably faster, considerably more thirsty, considerably more awesome. Mine looks like an M5 inside and out but there is where the similarities end :) The problem is I dont like buying cars more than 4-5 years old with 1 owner. In a years time or more the newest M5's will be 6+ years old.

And you wouldn't be willing to make an exception? :)

How much would you be looking for a M5, in a years time?

Assuming the newer M5 , at say 4-5 years old would be out of the price bracket?

I dont know. The reason I have that little rule is so I can hunt out the pristine one owner cars. It's served me well so far. I've no problems owning an older car but I'd want to buy it whilst it was fairly new, if that makes sense?

I should imagine £10k would get a decent one.

The new M5 is a financial liability on a scale never seen before. It's ridiculously complex. It also doesn't 'do it' for me like the older one does.

To do..

-Find..buy.. and fit some Phase 1 Leather/Alcantara interior (nice big buckety seats)
-Fix scratch on tailgate
-Refurb the alloys
-Possibly replace bonnet
-Fit a genuine front splitter
-Intercool and get mapped to 150bhp

Already done..

-Get decent tyres on the rear axle!
-GTi-6 Phase 3 Leather/Alcantara interior
-GTi-6 Steering wheel
-283mm '6 Brakes with Mintex 1144 pads
-Remap to 125bhp
-Decat
-Fit new rear beam mounts (for passive rear steer)

Done quite a lot to the old girl :P

Still lots more to do.. Its a labour of love :D , although some would see it as a waste of money.. :(

in all seriousness do you actually need the M5 other than say you have 400bhp? you obviously never use the power following all the 'OMG 39MPG' trip computer pics you like to post :p

hell, do you even use that right pedal? ;)

1) Get insurance.
2) Drive car muchly.
3a.) Replace aerial that only half erects.
3b.) Fit new head unit.
4) Drive car more.
5) Fit new speakers.
6) Repair / recover cracked leather seats.
7) Maybe get a smaller wheel.
8) Drive car muchly.

1) Kit myself up with some new cleaning gear for the leather etc.
2) Remap (200->265bhp)
3) New set of 18's to replace the 17's

1)empty three 19" CRT monitors from car back seats and boot.
2)emptly footwell of 2 foot deep crap
3)check oil
4)check tyres
5)wipe off dead flies from head lights
