Car with different engine

Do it.

Yes insurance will be a pain, but is just means you can't go to the normal insurers which you probably wouldn't use anyway, since they're too much!

I bet SSC etc have insurance discounts set up with companies for you, RSC has a scheme with Adrian Flux which helped me out :)

btw just in case anyone is questioning my sanity.

It's £900 for a 2000 V reg VTS with 45k and fsh but no MOT or TAX, has dent in passenger door, lock damage by attempted theft, has decat so wont pass MOT and owner needs to sell it TODAY hence the price.

My car is mint, seriously like brand new with 25k miles. I wouldn't find a saxo like this again for under £4k probably especially a VTS.

I could sell my engine for £300, my gearbox for £150, my wheels for £150, stereo out the vts for £100, interior out the vts for £100, driveshafts for £50 each. Thats my £900 back already then theres all the panels, rear beam, glass, suspension, brakes, airbags etc which could pay for say new engine mounts, new cambelt, new rocker covers etc to make sure its mint when in my car.

Cheap for a V reg perhaps and in a rush to sell. Reminds me of a bloke on the BBC documentary who bought a £14k BMW for £2k from a lad outside Radcliffe auctions and was surprised to find it was an o/s stolen.

We have v5's and HPI checks for a reason you know.

Do the newer vts's suffer from head gasket failure around that mileage mark as the old 106 gti's/vts's seemed to?

Think its more double that mileage mate, rocker covers tend to seep a bit of oil but head gasket should be ok, not a hard job to change anyway when engines out the car so will probably do headgasket, waterpump, cambelt and tensioners before I put it in mine.

Track car!

Snap it up and strip the hell out of it, would be awesome for track days

Maybe but haven't really got the time, space or money for a second car.

Its quite a common failure as far as I'm aware on the vts/gti lump at around 50k miles. Check the coolant/oil etc carefully - maybe it taps because its got the new water oil ;)

Ok new plan.

My mate is buying mine for £3k. I buy that one for £900, new door, new cat, new tyres (already have in garage), good service, full valet and polish up, MOT and tax it. so total cost around £1200. Now a 2000 VTS with 45k miles and full service history in generally good condition has gotta be worth £2500. So thats £1300 profit. Add that to my £3k and buy something like this:

Or a 106 GTI but it would be a 2001 example with 40k instead of a 2003 with 20k.

hmmmm, induction kit, you wont be needing that will you? :D ;)

looks incredibly good for the money, and even if its "shed" like exterior, which it really doesnt look like you can no doubt sell it on for 1.5k or mroe in that same condition by just wording the advert more positively.

Although your plan also sounds good, will you be insuirng a vtr again then when you buy your new car? ;)

Schweeeet! :)

I reckon quite a few of us wouldn't mind that for ourselves!
Including Cymatty...!
