Carabao Cup - Semi Final ** Spoilers ** [8/9/22 January 2019]

Your shoulder is your arm. If someone "shoulders" a ball then it's handball or should be.

I assume it is because the shoulder is essentially an immobile part of the arm for the purpose of being able to get it out of the way. You can move it but the actual shoulder doesn't move in space very much whereas the rest of the arm can be moved in or out of the way of the ball.

Should we really be debating the shoulder thing when Chelsea's own video analysis appears to show that Kane was clearly offside? VAR's a load of ****.

I said the same last year, develop some sort of gps tracking system that can instantly alert the ref, lino or whoever if a player is in an offside position. VAR as it stands is full of flaws and we're going to see just as many inconsistencies as before.

VAR drew the line at the feet when Kane's head was ahead, so I can see why Chelsea are upset.
The referree's association have come out and said that the line used by VAR was accurate, not Chelsea's and are adament it was onside. My issue with VAR isn't so much the accuracy but the time it takes and the other issues it brings up.

This thing where lino's are supposed to keep their flag down even if they think a player is offside in potential goalscoring situations is mad. Had Kane been offside in this instance, shot and Kepa tipped it wide for a corner then VAR wouldn't have been used as a goal wasn't scored. Spurs could then score from the resulting corner leaving us with a goal scored that would have beem correctly flagged offside without VAR.

VAR for possible red cards and pens is going to be even worse. Take the Salah penalty vs Newcastle - VAR won't overrule that once it's given but equally VAR won't give it if the ref doesn't either. We're going to have two identical situations with different outcomes, just like had we not had VAR but the difference being we'll have people screaming about how inconsistent VAR is.

Maybe they should just do it like they do in cricket. Yesterday for eg for too close to call so they went with the assistant.

Or just scrap VAR completely.

So if they are saying that he was onside, the rules need rewriting, to any part of the body infront of the last defender is offside.

He could not have been onside using the rules as they are now, as his head +/- his shoulder was offside, breaking this bit of the rule. 'player is in an offside position if any of their body parts, except the hands and arms'

So its not the var is particularly crap, its the rules are not being used correctly or even compatible with the system now.

They're disputing the image that Chelsea used. According to the article I've read they're saying that the angle of the camera/lines aren't right and that the image is from after the ball was played, not as it was played.

In short, they're not saying that he was onside in Chelsea's image. They're saying the image was wrong/misleading, the officials image was correct and he was onside.
