Carabao Cup - Third Round ** Spoilers ** [21st - 22nd Sept 2021]

This please.
I don't think there's any chance of Trent or Bobby playing, even if they were 100% fit let alone coming back from an illness and muscle injury. It'll be interesting to see what Klopp does at the back though. Logic suggests it's Gomez and Konate, giving those two the gametime while allowing Matip the full week off and giving VVD another rest but I just get the feeling Klopp's going to want to give Phillips a game. Whether that means Konate misses out or whether Gomez gets pushed to RB I'm not sure.

The most important thing is Gordon plays though. I was so impressed with him in pre-season.

Trent and Bobby are confirmed out. Given all the talk pre match I’d be absolutely gob snacked if Gordon doesn’t start.

Re the cbs we do still have Phillips there so it might be a game for him as he has to play at some point. I’d have Cain playing aswell personally but we do have a few lads that need some game time.

Cain's out on loan. Like Gordon, Conor Bradley was pulled from a u23 game the other day so is very likely to be involved, possibly starting RB if all of Gomez, Phillips and Konate don't start and there's a few reports saying that Tyler Morton could be in the squad too.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a lineup like:
Kelleher
Bradley
Phillips
Gomez
Tsimikas
Ox
Naby
Jones
Gordon
Minamino
Origi

With a few senior players, Hendo/VVD and the like and some youngsters on the bench. Should be a fun game regardless.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's the team, with Konate possibly a HT sub for Gomez or vice versa. I'd be very very surprised if VVD is anywhere other than on his sofa with his feet up though.

I think he'll be back in for Brentford alongside Matip for sure, it's more a case of managing his minutes/game time, so bringing him on for the last 30 lets him continue his recovery.

He'll definitely be back for Brentford but I can't imagine we're going to take any chances with his recovery in a League Cup game. I doubt he'll start vs Porto next midweek either, with City the following weekend. A game per week for now and then stepping things up possibly after the next round of Internationals is more realistic.

You wouldn't mind if they where actually putting the games on TV. I think they're screening 3 out of god knows how many at this point, 20+? Even if it where just a few of the smaller club games or even the mid table PL sides. Is there any specific reason why they aren't showing more? Is it just licensing?

I couldnt care less about the result tonight so for me its just to get some minutes into players. I’m sure it’s part of a package but when that renews they need to be giving these games to terrestrial tv. You might garner some interest.

Let's hope for a few (minor) Liverpool injuries tonight...

We're apparently putting out a strong side against Oldham, and I can see one of our key players taking a knock!

This week we're playing both the 92/92 and 1/92 teams in England at home. I wonder if that's ever happened before.

Team news in for Liverpool, interesting that we're going with Konate/Gomez CB pairing and Phillips on the bench

It's the right decision. It would have been nice to give Phillips a game but it would have been a sentimental decision rather than what's best for the side, both for this game and in the long term with Konate and Gomez both needing games.
