Carabao Cup - Third Round ** Spoilers ** [25/26 September 2018]

Given the amount of changes we made I suppose you can understand that sort of performance. First 20 minutes or so we were all over the place, the front 3 not knowing when to press and as a result the midfield were being pulled out of position, making it easy for Fabregas to pick his passes. We gradually got back into the game and looked comfortable going into the last 15 mins or so but then seemed to get a bit complacent. We had chances to go 2 goals up and wasted them and a couple of moments of really lazy defending cost us 2 goals.

Never good to lose but if we were going to lose 1 game of this run, this was the game. Hopefully it'll give us the kick up the arse we need for Saturday.

Anyone know what happened to ABBA format for penalty shootouts, MU had 4 max pressure penalties (miss and you are out of the cup) whereas Derby had none?

Some people moaned about it but I think their complaints are illogical:

Gerrard said:
"If you miss that first penalty - which is the advantage if you score it - and the other team scores their first two then 2-0 is a big advantage to the second team."
What, as opposed to the big advantage from the old format to the first team whereby if you went second and missed your first kick you could be 2-0 down? The difference is, at least with ABBA format, you would get a chance to make it 2-2 without them replying. But that isn't really the point, I mean if you miss a penalty and the other team scores theirs, you are obviously going to be at a disadvantage

Hoddle said:
"Before you'd want to go first, but you would think twice now.

"If they miss you've got two opportunities (to score), so do you give them the opportunity to go first?"

I don't see how having to "think twice" is a bad thing, basically that just implies that the old format gave the advantage to the team going first, whereas now it is fairer.
