Hi,

Strange post but wondered if anyone knew if there is much difference between different models of Carbon Monoxide detectors?

We have a British Gas inspection due and they can provide one for £30 which we have requested. However I thought I would quickly see how much they are online and they sell for much less, Lloyds Pharamacy's sell one for just £12.99.

Whilst I can see the benefit of having one, they are hardly the most exciting purchase out there, so would prefer not to spend £30 if a £13 is just the same!

Cheers

I assume that if you get one which can detect Carbon Monoxide you will be fine. Although some may be louder than others, or be able to detect the gas sooner?

I bought the same Honeywell one that they recommend from a big auction site for about £15.

Just grab a chav off the street and stand them in a corner,

if chav turns blue and falls over just leave,

one less chav and you survive.

I suspect that the difference might be quite how sensitive they are (although they should all have the same basic sensitivity), plus BG will most likely be making a bit more profit than Lloyds / more expensive model.

Our current one cost about £25 from one of the DIY stores, and I beleive has a built in self test for the sensor.

The British Gas ones are just rebadged Honeywell ones that can be found for around £25 online. The one you linked to will do the same job, but the battery probably won't last as long and it may not self test. Honeywell ones also come with a 6 year warranty (even if the battery goes flat they will replace it FOC).

We have a British Gas one and they replace it FOC when the battery goes flat. In fact they recently replaced it because the original was recalled due to a fault with that model.
