Carcraft

Sorry my bad. My first post was

9 grand for a 4 year old base level Clio.

OWNED.

I did then feel guilty and post

If you are in your cooling off period PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go back and cancel the agreement. I seriously cannot believe after reading this thread that you think this is a good idea. You will REALLY regret this in a few months. I mean you've paid more than what you can buy a new one for and this one doesn't even have alloy wheels, you've spend 10k on a car and you have to go out and buy alloy wheels. Seriously cancel this agreement as you've basically chained yourself to this car for 5 years!

****ing hell!

a few minutes after. So yeah I'm a bit of a plonker but the point still stands.

I don't see why we need to come up with Photoshops. James, the famous OP himself, provided the best gold:

Shame almost hidden. And to think, it all started because of a window sticker.

I'm sure he blanked out the key fob because it had the car reg written on it.

I will use an example, Moeks posted a very similar thread, got blasted for it and then he cancelled the agreement saving him £0000's. He actually is in debt to us all :p A good grilling can be helpful for some people :)

Indeed it can, although I knew it was a bad idea anyway, I just needed to have it confirmed I suppose. Mind you, mine wasn't as bad as the Carcraft Clio Saga, the amounts were much larger, but the car was much better and the interest was relatively a lot less. Not that I am defending it, it was a stupid idea and I didn't do it, so I'm quite happy now :) ...I am just sticking my really very nice ST220 for a while, I think I've gotten the 'must change' bug out of my system for a bit.

Hope people can give this James07 guy a bit of a break now.

It's happened, he did what did, made a mistake, but its spread across half the internet now and its gone far enough IMHO.

I really do hope that we have no more new threads about this.

I'm laughing at the people claiming that they offered sound advice, but the OP wasn't 'receptive' to it..

If you came on a forum and everyone told you instantly that you 'FAIL' and started laughing, you'd pretty much go on the defensive immediately...

If people had been more 'understanding' and wheren't as rude and agressive as they where, then perhaps he could have been talked 'round.. you'd certainly have stood a much better chance..

Keep it all up though, the entertainment value is high, and I wonder how long before the next 'victim' comes along.. I could pre-write all the arguments/counters and who will say what when almost to the letter it's getting that predictable! time to mix it up, don't want it all going stale..

From what I got from the thread, MOST people tried to point out (gently, but firmly) the errors of his way but after reading replies such as "It's only money" and my personal favorite "It's not that bad a deal - I'm paying TWICE the car's value over 3 years" it think people gave up and took pleasure in watching the failboat sink.

He clearly wasn't going to be shown the errors of his ways. As far as he was concerned (and sadly, probably a lot of other people who have been taken in by carcraft) he made the right choice. He's been played. Nothing drove this home more than me reading him replying something along the lines of "I got lucky. It was the only finance deal I could get, and I only got it because the sales women tried really hard and questioned <insert company name here> as to why they refused me".

By the way, ironic him being a member of a forum intended to SAVE people money, eh? :p.

Right I've just emailed Top Gear ([email protected]), linked to the original thread and asked them to get this in the show. If we all do the same we might stand a chance. :D

to be fair i dont think it will get on there because it would be attacking carcraft just as much as james07, and the bbc wont be able to do that?

They can talk about it if they want so long as what they mention is factual. They have talked about company's many times on the BBC, they just aren't allowed to advertise on there.

It's a bit late offering 'good' advice after you've ridiculed them, that has to be the worst way of offering advice known to man.. that's all I said :)

He will kick himself in 3 years time when his Clio is getting on and causing him problems and he can't afford to sell it and get something else because he still owes so much. He may think he has a 'nice' car now but in 3-5 years time when all his friends can afford decent cars and he's still stuck with a shed of a Clio.

I wonder what proportion of your posts in Motors are of the type where you criticise other peoples approach to threads/posters/issues/topics versus how many of them are opinion on cars themselves.

A pretty unfavourable one, I'd guess :)

I'm sure he will.. it's a shame sometimes learning the hardway is often required..

I guess if you have not a lot of money, need a car, have poor credit, what are the options these days? walk, cycle or take a pineappling from said establishments?

And? It's a forum, I do post advice/opinion at times, but I'm the sort of person that doesn't like to see people being picked on by others that should know better, and I like to think that all types of posters (bar trolling of course) would be acceptable here..

:D

He had a Punto that worked, it was 'on its way out' but still worked. If he can afford £250 a month on finance payments there are plenty of cars you can pick up for £300-£500 that will do a job for a year and then you can just chuck them away. Over that year he could have saved up enough to buy his dream Clio outright, instead he's financially screwed himself for 5 years.

Even if you have £0 I could imagine most people could scrape together a couple of hundread quid together at short notice.

I guess you could, although £300-£500 cars are likely to be quite in need of maintenance/repair...

And to save £3000 @ £250 a month would take him 12 months to save up, a long time to be without a car...

I would never condone his purchase, it is finanically very poor, I'm just wondering what 'real' options someone has in that position.. it does seem like most options are all undesirable in different ways, and clearly he choose the financially undesirable option.

Plenty of £300 Mondeos/Vectras/Fiestas/Clios/Corsas etc...... with a years tax and test, run it into the ground for a year whilst saving.
