my x1800xt that i got today is running ok on my enermax liberty 400w psu, but will get a more powerful one soon, its ok for now but my psu's life may shorten cos of it and i'd rather not have it failing on me.
Your PSU has 30A available according to the specs , there is no need to upgrade. You'd need to buy something like a 900 Watt generic jobby to meet that kind of power output :p

Out of curiosity CSA, what is your CPU? I have a feeling it might be the CPU dying which is causing our momentary Mouse/keyboard spazzing, as it only happens in high-intensity situations.

Mine is a A64 3200+ stock.

Its an opteron 146 OC to 2.7GHz on this board , had it at 2.9GHZ on my old neo2 platinum

I too thought it could have been the CPU and one of the first tests i caried out was to run the PC at stock speeds for a day and i still got the problems so i ruled out the CPU & RAM at the time .

Hmm... Ok. I'm not going to rule it out (we may have different reasons behing our slowdown afterall :)) but I'll think of something else.

I think my HDD is finally giving up the ghost, so it could be that.

Some crazy calcs here, check the bay of e for an electricity meter, my systems uses 71watts on idle and around 110watts loaded (7600gt)

Bigger cards need more, but not that much...

well i ordered a Antec Heo 500watt modular yesterday so i pray it fixes my problems :)

Actually they do m8, 7600 GT is one of the lowest consumption cards on the market, especially for the speed it offers. In this article: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/power-noise_5.html

X1800 XT measured 103 Watts peak load, to just 35.8 Watts for the 7600 GT.
