Career In The Army part 2 (Hopefully)

bakes0310 at the moment I have no Idea. I would like to aim for something like the Royal Marines but its too early to say at the moment. I would be happy to get in "just" the infantry, but why not to aim higher.

You do realise the marines is part of the Navy right?

Hate to burst your bubble I'm afraid but I think your too old for the infantry. I know the officer cap on entry is 27 for the infantry.

If anyone has any questions about joining as an officer I may be able to help having almost completed the process.

Yes I do, but I have some time to decide what to go for.
Royal Marines Commando entry age cap is 32 years (26 for officer), and infantry cap is 33 (28 for officer) according to the websites.

You're wrong unfortunately, they changed the rules not too long ago. Due to (most likely) recruiting problems, they increased the recruitment age to 33 years for all arms(In the army anyway, not too sure about the marines).

Out of interest though Hugogo, what are you going for? Which corps or what ever are you heading for?

I know its going to be extremely challenging and i know theres going to be times where i want to go home, but there will be times when ill feel like the most happiest chap ever :D and talk about job satisfaction aswell itll make me feel like im making a difference even if its a small one.

The son of a coworker of mine has just passed the first stage of basic training, which gets him a badge. That badge wouldn't be more valuable to him if it was solid gold and encrusted with diamonds. There seems to be a huge amount of job satisfaction well before you start the job itself, probably because the training is hard, very hard, physically and mentally. The trainers are there to rapidly make some civilians into soldiers and get rid of those who can't be made into soldiers. They are very efficient and very unlikely to mince their words.

Sponsored by REME for reg. Also an O/cdt in the rifles TA.

As for the age stuff. Ooops! I do know however that the cap is you have to have finished training by the day of your <insert up age cap here> birthday so get moving. Also males reach their physical peak by 29 so youll have a tough time of it post 30. Being with lots of 18 year olds will be massivly demorilising if you cant achieve the physical standard. But still go for it if its what you want to do. :).

Well i came back from pirbright on friday, i absolutly loved it:D
This is basically what happened:
day 1:
After arriving and getting to know the other lads there, and getting into are rooms. We headed off to a hall where we had to do a beep test, we had to score 10.2. Luckily i got 11 so im well chuffed, the fastest lad there got 12.7 so welldone for him.
After doing the beep test we had to do as many pushups as we can in 2 mins, this is what i was dreading. I managed 29 the best out of the group got 59. Anyway this was followed by situps which we had to also do in 2 mins. I happily scored 61, i cant remember what the best score was i think it was in the 80s. After that we had food, presentations etc etc. Lights out at 22:00, the beds were alright actually, and the room was warm.

Day 2:
Up at 6:00, for showers and breakfast, about 8:00 we had to go for are 4 mile run, to begin with we had to do are warmup, which involved going up the 3 sisters. There basically 3 nasty hills, after doing them we had a 5 min break and went straight off on are 4 mile cross country run. The first 2 miles was with the PT instructors then they said alright turn around your gonna be timed for the last 2 miles so best effort.
It was actually quite hard i dug in though and carried on at a reasonable pace, while noticing the ppl that rushed off to begin with had slowed right down. The instructor said that 15-20 mins its got to be in, and i done it in 14 mins 20 seconds:) the best time there was 9 minute something:eek:
After a nice 10 min break we headed off to the assualt course that was great fun and very hard in places. Also we had to do command task which i wont tell you about just in case someone on here has to do them oneday;)

Day 3:
Went off to windsor barracks its the coldstream guards 1st battalion barracks we met the warrant officer who filled us in on why its so great to be in the army and not just his regiment.
At the end of the day we had to go see the CSGT on a one on one interview to see if we made the grade for joining his regiment. And im glad to say that he said theres a bed with my name on it after basic:)
He said i gave 100% effort and my running is good, but i just need to work on upper body strength.

Day4:
Basically just breakfast and home.

Overall i enjoyed it very much and cant wait to go in. Im now working on my upper body strength a lot more, ive also bought an ab board and a pull up bar.
Anyway hopefully after the CSGT tells my career office that i passed the look at life course it should speed everything up and hopefully be in by feb/march:)

Well its nearly been over 3 weeks now since i went to pirbright. I still aint had any contact from the army careers office since they helped me get on that course.
What should i do, should i play the waiting game, or phone them up and see whats going on?
cheers:)

Good to hear dude :D. Just out of interest, was that a taster day, or was that selection for officer?
What ever it is, it is well fun isn't it :D. Just like basic training hehe. Just wish I didn't have to arse around with my tattoo removal.

If your talking to me, it was a taster for the ColdStream Guards, and yes i loved all of it, even the beastings:p:)

Finished watching the 60min program, ive posted above, and it was very good. It just shows that the guards actually do go out in fight, unlike what is believed. You wouldnt believe a lot of people at work think that all ill be doing is guarding buckingham palace. Not realising that i could be sent to afganistan fighting.
Anyway ive been given a date of febuary from the CSGT at pirbright, but as long as i pass, medical test, BARB Test and Physical test beforehand.

just watched that.. afganhistans the place to be, not iraq. And that seems like an awesome if frightening experience, good luck bakes.. lmao at the ANA soldiers smoking green loL!

Laughed my ass off when that ANA walked out of cover and his gun got shot and his magazine flew off, he soon went back behind cover:p

When I was in the Army the BFT was 1.5 miles out, 30 secs rest and 1.5 miles back and dependent on your age its under 10 mins in total.

Has it changed?

Its a 300m warmup then a tiny rest probably like 30 seconds. Then off you go on the 1.5 run depending on what you wanna join you got to do it in different times eg
Infantry/Guards: 10m 30s
Parachute Regiment: 9m 18
Intelligence: 14m 30s :p
