if you do join the RAF be prepared to fall into the trap, of coming into work till 10 then going on NAFFI break till bloody lunch, coming back in at 2 wondering around for a bit hands on hips before deciding you best go back to the block for a kip xD . Worked with 'em, never bloody saw 'em, they are more ninja than the bloody SAS

Judging by your location, are you on 30? Bleedin' siggies.

Well i would like to know if RAF ICT specialists get any sort of choice of which area of ICT they will be doing, because ICT is a big subject. In the army the royal signals have multiple ICT trades instead of just the RAFs ICT specialist, so at least in the signals you have some sort of choice (even then though, the trades in the signals cover huge areas too). Reason i want to know this is because things like being a network admin would realy interest me and i would love to do it, but being a communications system op (using radios, sat comms etc...) would be much less interesting to me.
Also the armed forces websites don't give much info about the trades at different ranks. They give a description of what trades will do in general, but they dont give much info as to what sort of work they will be doing fresh out of trade training, and what sort of work they will be doing as they progress through the ranks. I know that the higher ranks take on more management type tasks, but surely they must also progress onto more technical equipment/skills (for instance they proberly wouldnt let the lower ranks design network infrastructure).
I love the attitude of some SAC Techs, the "circle of power"... WTF? What power exactly? As if it is a rank up or something... scrotes!
I'm hoping to get into the RAF as an aircraft technician(mechanical), I was thinking about an ICT specialist and they said I would be fast tracked in if I chose it. I've done my aptitude test and I scored really well but I need to phone my local AFCO back with my career choice on the 5th of January, excited
