Carjacking pro

The passenger side door is almost always locked in my car anyway (no central locking so it only gets unlocked so someone can get in) and if I'm driving through a rough looking area at night for example, I do usually reach round and lock my door as well. Especially if I'm having to stop a-lot.

Wow its like real life GTA5 totally! Glad the innocents were unharmed.

I have to say I always lock my car doors as soon as Im in. If I pick someone up they get in and doors lock again.

This habit saved me once when a bum tried to open the driver-side door. A friend who also has the same habit was saved when a asswipe with a knife tried to open her driver side door at night while at a red light on quiet road.

When I was over in the states wearing seatbelts didn't seem to be as enforced as in the UK, not even sure it's the law over there which would certainly help in pulling someone out of the car, also women are easily spooked by a guy opening a door!

Our hire cars tended to have anti-car jacking built in, so when you started moving after getting in all of the car doors locked.

In England?! Have you ever known anyone to be car jacked?! If you're moving, it won't matter anyway. I've never locked my doors while driving, and have yet to be car jacked.

It's alright if you've got a rubbish car.

When I had my Escort Cosworth I had two occasions where some scrote tried to open the drivers door whilst I was sat at traffic lights. No idea what their intentions were as I drove away and didn't ask but I doubt it was to have a conversation!

This, can't say I have ever met anyone who locks their car doors when driving. Surely that would be a very dumb move in the event of an accident?

Both my Scorpio and Lexus have "lock on go" and unlock the doors if an airbag goes off.

For the past 40 years in main cities there have been instances of cars stuck in traffic where a chap will open a door and steal a handbag from the car etc.
It was always good practice to lock the doors.
Most cars do this by default now when you go faster than about5mph.

Safety!!

You have no idea what people are capable of especially when you're in slow moving or stationary traffic. What if someone just jumped into your car for whatever reason? Invading your personal space, putting your own or family's safety at risk!

I always lock the door when driving and more so when my wife & son are in the car.

I don't drive but the day i get a car i see myself doing what you do for the same reasons. Some people in this thread seem quite blasé about personal safety, nothing really bad has happened to me when out and about in my 37 years because i'm extra careful when outside
