Carling Cup First Legs *Spoilers* (11/01/2011 - 12/01/2011)

Ipswich's David Norris on the 7-0 defeat to Chelsea: "We had to pick ourselves up as we let a lot of people down and didn't do ourselves justice. But we did a job tonight and gave something back to the fans who were brilliant at the weekend. After today's result we won't be going to Arsenal thinking we are going to lose."

After losing to the likes of West Brom and Newcastle, drawing against teams like Leeds and scoring an 88th minute winner against West Ham all at home - it's no wonder teams don't fear us any more. Teams all know they can come to the emirates and grab a win (maybe not city :D), it's practically handed to them when Denilson, Bendtner and Arshavin are in the starting 11 and three quarters of the team can't be asked to do anything.

I assume you're only rating Arsenal players here? Because Snake Priskin and Wickham were miles better than anyone in yellow.

Of course, Just about everyone for Ipswich played better than us.

Well played Ipswich, probably every man playing for their shirt and it showed, made Arsenal look very ordinary which to be honest they are.

Arsenal only seem to be good when the opposition lay over and let Arsenal walk all over them, but hey this is professional football and two teams play each match.

And Ipswich are nowhere near a bottom of the table Championship side, I guess that Keane just wasn't up to the job and Ipswich will move up the table quite quickly.

I really hope the board have the balls to fire Wenger, at this stage I'd think he'd be poor involved in the youth setup or somewhere above a new manager influencing transfers and policies.

a decade ago, or 5 years ago Arsenal were contenders for EVERY cup, and our absolute reserve team had a real go in the league cup every year. Deemed unimportant, but a worthwhile run out for the reserves who were impressive year on year. Now Wenger seems to be conceding that our reserves our worse, our chances of the league and other cups are really non existant, this cup is finally our only chance and playing a lot of first team players will win us at least that cup, and we still lose and play like utter retards.

How far will Arsenal drop before we finally ditch Wenger. No one, well no one any good plays with the same belief or determination at Arsenal anymore.

We fire him, get a new manager before its too late, infuse some belief in the squad and keep our best players while actually replacing the utter rubbish, or wait and wait, for one by one every great player to leave and be left only with rubbish players, down the table and with a monumental job of rebuilding the squad.

How many years have we had "loads of offers for RVP/Fabregas/whoever but after a meeting with Wenger they are persauded of his plans and promises to improve and strengthen".

How long will that work, when he plays that card every single year?

I won't begrudge frankly anyone leaving, from those given little to no chance like Vela, to Fabregas and RVP who have given a lot to a club that consistantly lies to them.

Really think it's Wengers time?

Arsenal while being fairly unsuccessful play very good football, a young hungry squad (I take the point they've not delivered so far) with some additions could do very well.

Is Wenger more interested in good football and young players then winning things?

Who would really come in and be able to maintain the standard of football, add that lethal touch and bring in silverware?

I just can't imagine Wenger getting sacked. The backroom board love him to much and are to nice to get rid of him. Another point is that Arsenal fans are no where near vocally strong showing their feelings compared to other teams such as Liverpool fans. Maybe Wenger has done all he can with the club and let someone take over. Can't see this happening.

Question is more, who would come in and take that squad to the next level? Realistically.

Wenger, he's NOT the same man who was in charge 10 years ago, so theres many people who could do better.

The best manager in the world who insists on playing Diaby and Denilson because some ridiculous morale principle of winning the league without spending a dime(but 110mil on wages) isn't going to get you anywhere, nor is one who is slowly losing the entire team, can't motivate them, can't win anything, and lies to his players consistantly year on year to make them stay, that only works so long.

Hiddink, lol, Ancelloti will be available soon and if allowed to choose his own transfers(assuming Ramires wasn't his choice) could replace the dross.

I think a lot of non sentimental managers, who haven't brought in guys like Diaby and Denilson, Song, Djourou and spent years and years with them, would sell them in an instant and replace them with whose required. They'd see the team and play 4-4-2, they'd stop buying strikers and insisting on playing them on the wings.

I think Arsenal are becoming the new Liverpool, a few fantastic players propping up an ever worsening team, with those players losing faith with the manager slowly and will start looking to leave while their form dips ever lower.

I mean, why after the best part of 2 seasons worth of games and Arshavin playing well on the left, with Bendtner completely worthless on the left, did he all of a sudden start switching them for entirely no reason, I can't answer it, I don't think any sane person could come up with a reasonable answer.

Wenger has these deluded idea's that just don't work, buy a striker, play him in multiple positions and he becomes a better player. So far ONE player he's done that too and its worked, Henry, dozens of players now its failed to work, but he still does it??? Can't spend transfer fee's, but can spend 100mil + on wages, somehow transfer fee's are bad, but a ridiculously large youth squad, of who almost no one ever makes it into the first team, is fine, money is money, you're trying to buy a title if you have a small youth team and buy your first team, or have a huge youth team, costing a lot, and still buy your whole first team as Wenger's done.

Two completely random, non working, non sensical idealistic things Wengers introduced to Arsenal that fail time, and time and time and time again.

I always wondered if Arsene would have been as successful if he hadn't inherited the defence he did.

Wow just wow at Arsenal...what a ****ing joke we have become...2 games in a row we have struggled against sides that we should have spanked all over the field...just unbelievable how bad we are at the moment...i had this niggling feeling that Ipswich were up for this and they proved it by beating 1-0...thank god its a 2 leg affair but unless we pull up our socks we are going to be knocked out and thats another trophy gone:(.

Seriously though well done Ipswich you definitely deserved to beat us....Wenger i think has lost it...im beginning to think that instead of us winning things we will continue on a slow downward spiral....i happen to think like DM that we could very well be the next Liverpool in the making with the utter rubbish we spurn out week in and week out.

Just really lost for words at how bad and inept we have become..

Spawn just to say Arsenal have never really been that good a side, in fact you are still over achieving at the moment. Wenger has done well for your club.

I do think it's time to recognise that you are around about West Ham's status over the long term.
