Carling Cup First Legs *Spoilers* (11/01/2011 - 12/01/2011)

Just woke up with a massive hangover so I thought posting here would make me feel better about my life...

hahahahahahahahahah Lolsenal...

That is all.

Didn't Derby win the first leg against United last season? We all know what happened in the return leg. All to do for Ipswich but still, Arsenal, lawl.

If Arsenal fail to win the Carling cup (which they should) it is possible that a Championship or a even league one side will playing in Europe, with Brum, hammers and Ipswich all facing possible relegation.

With 10,000 Ipswich supporters going to the Emirates and the fair-weather Arsenal fans who can't usually get tickets in the ground for the Carling Cup it should be a great atmosphere.

As you say, both sides have it all to do but it's set up really nicely for an exciting second leg. :D

I'm sorry but if Arsenal don't win this cup then Wenger might as well leave. This is easily their best chance to win silverware in years. It's practically on a plate for them.

Meh, I'd have had more respect for Arsenal if he gave our best youth players a real try, where the hell is JET, he's been fantastic in the reserves, fantastic in preseason, looks a step UP from several of our first team players, and he can play any attacking outfield position and look good there.

Why did we bring Ramsey back from loan, have two cup games which he could have played, seen how he did then send him back out if we must, instead we send him off again.

The carling cup meant nothing 10 years or 5 years ago, it still doesn't, Arsenal should still be treating the cup the same, the only reason we aren't is Wenger's getting desparate. Winning it means next to nothing, its a cup, woo, but seeing as most of the top teams really don't put any effort into it, its literally not the same as saying you won the FA cup where the best teams above you tried.

Youths lose the league cup trying hard, not embarassing, first team win it, just shows how far we've slipped that its Wenger's seeming last chance to hold on to key players before they get peeved and leave the club.

Before I posted we should have given JET a chance I had to just check he wasn't out on loan, however I still see we have both Randall, and Hoyte out on loan, at rubbish league TWO clubs, where we must be paying their wages as theres no way those clubs could afford them. This is what winds me up, anyone whose seen either player in the past 6-7 years could tell you, never in a million years will they be EPL quality, league two might be pushing it for Hoyte. Probably given both players 3-4mil a piece in that time, what a complete waste.

You'd be surprised what winning even the smallest cup could do for the team. Barely anyone in your squad knows how to win things. It could give the club a bit of confidence. Anything is better than nothing.

Strange how UTD don't take it seriously yet have still managed to win it twice while we've won nothing. Just get behind the team DM and hope that for the first time in ages we pick up some silverware.

Yeah it'd be nice to win a cup and it would give the team a lift, but sacking Wenger if he doesn't win doesn't make a lot of sense. I think it was the players who had a ridiculously blase attitude last night, Wenger put a good side out, it isn't his fault they didn't take it seriously

Yep, his movement on the shoulder of their last defender isn't particularly good or regular, he drops into the gap between the defenders and midfielders to try and influence play, just so happened there wasn't a gap between their defence and midfield for 90% of last nights game so he had no joy. Also causes a bit of a problem as there isn't enough of a central attacking threat when Bendtner is messing about in positions you don't want your CF in.

isn't it? Surely part of a managers role is motivating his players and making sure they go out there with the right attitude?

Yep, and I'm certain he'll have treated this game like any other, but this group of players have a tendency to not give a crap every month or so, last night was that! I suppose some of it is down to Wenger, but he was obviously taking the game seriously as he started the likes of Fabregas/Arshavin, the players looked lazy and lethargic though and there's little a manager can do when it's one of those nights.

Spawn just to say Arsenal have never really been that good a side, in fact you are still over achieving at the moment. Wenger has done well for your club.

I do think it's time to recognise that you are around about West Ham's status over the long term.

Stop talking utter crap mate....we arent that bad yet lol...we are slowly becoming liverpool-esque ie struggling in games when we shouldnt be even with a full squad....but im hoping against hope that we pick ourselves up and start becoming more consistant.

He may take it seriously by fielding a strong team but like the Leeds game, he always tells our players to go out there and have fun. No really much of a prep talk, is it? I've been calling for wengers head for sometime now, I somewhat agree with the following post:

Wenger is doing fantastic to keep a bunch of above average players (4 or 5 world class) in the top 4/Champions League, but we need someone to take us a step further. One of the main reasons Wenger is safe for now is because he has had such a massive influence on the way the club is run, A new manager might not have the same principles as Wenger in terms of developing youth (Basically the main part of our club). A striker capable of 25-35 goals per season, another experienced CB and possibly a DM and natural winger (last two are optional) is what we need. Because nowadays we either struggle to score or just conceded stupid and unnecessary goals. A goalkeeper is not a priority. Like DM mentioned, how quality players in our youth team like JET or Afoebe don't get a run in when arshavin and bendter go quiet is beyond me. Another problem is who to bring in if we were to sack Wenger....
