carling cup football thread 22-23 *spoilers*

The problem with Nani's crosses is who on earth did he have to aim at? Was pretty much just Owen for a large portion of the match, who is hardly going to win many headers. I think a lot of our poor conversion from corners and crosses is blamed on the crosser when in fact we just have very little in the air.

Since when does a cross have to be on the head? Answer, it doesn't, at all. IF theres no one to knock the ball to on the head, then crossing high is a bad choice and therefore a bad cross. Owen is the perfect type of player to cross inbetween the defence and keeper, LOW for the striker to run across and knock in, infact look at the clip of spurs last night, 3 of the goals in that game were simple crosses and tap ins, yet Nani against a woeful, truly horrible Wolves couldn't pick out a Utd player in the box at all.

He's lazy, with incredibly poor decision making who uses pace rather than skill to beat most players then has no clue what to do with the ball, aswell as a lazy attitude. As I said preseason when people thought he looked good, under NO pressure against useless opposition he'll score a few, in a real game with people giving him kicks and putting him under pressure, no time on the ball and quick decisions to make, he'll never be good enough to be first team AND make a difference in most games.

Utd were poor last night, Wolves were worse, they did as someone said rather walk through the midfield with ease but the whole team looked clueless with how to get around the defence. Felt sorry for one of the central mid players who the second half was ALWAYS in space running around into gaps with his arms up for most of the 45mins asking for the ball while the other Wolves players just knocked it from one wing to the other with no idea what to do next.

True, but those crosses only really work when the defences makes a mistake imo it's much easier to clear three heads than have three players not intercept a ground ball.

Much like Arsenal. Arsenal fans always criticise Clichy and Sagna for not being able to cross well but there's rarely more than 1 player in the box.

No dis-respect to Wolves, but Man Utd shouldnt have come out of that match with a win after being 10 men for over an hour

ps interesting to note that no one mentions the 3 minutes + of extra-time that Man Utd definitely DIDNT want last night :D - Wolves just couldnt make the most of it

the wolves fans were chanting "we want six" i was going to tell them that they would have needed to score..5...before going for six..but i thought it would have been wasted on them:/

I thought he was good, he ran the midfield and looked comfortable.

he did, he just looks slow and laboured.. perfectly reasonable vs wolves not so good vs good premier oppposition.

I haven't read most of the thread but I've seen a few comments about Nani playing well

I have to say he was the worst player on the pitch last night, every single time he had the ball he made the wrong decision whether that be a bad pass, awful cross, not beating his man (who was awful btw) or beating his man and doing nothing with it. He was Wolves best defender for the entire time he was on the pitch.

I really hope he comes good but think he's got this season to prove he can do it or he's of to Villareal or someone other none de-script Spanish/Portuguese/Italian team.

did a little accumilator for the mid week games, won £4.50 from 50p :p

don't let it go to your head; one day you're up £4.50, your top of the world, flying, living the dream, pretty much laying the 'duh duh duh duh -duh -duh Can't touch this' down the sidewalk of life. The next you lay a couple of bad bets, a couple of poor investments and your £4.50 flutters away like it was £1.75 and your back in the gutter where you started, bottle in your mouth, staring up at the stars.

I have to say it made me laugh when he out-paced his opponant time and time again down the wing and then paused and faffed about so they could catch up with him again once he got down to the final 1/3 lol

Worst part of his imo definite sale will be that I cant see us getting even half our investment back (personally think we will be VERY lucky to get £10m for him, more like £6m with add ons though) - I guess at least its one person off the wage bill lol

That cracked me up - thank you

Nice draw for us, should be on the telly as well with it being Robins old club and all that jazz.

Arsenal and Liverpool looks tasty too, I wonder if Wenger will put a few first teamers in?
