Carling Cup Football. Yes, Spoilers...

Beat a really poor second string side and you're top of the world.

It was deserved for Spurs but Liverpool were a mess.

We beat their first team 2-1.

I make that 2 wins against Liverpool so far this season

It now gives me permission to rip the urine out of the many Pool supporters at work who were bigging themselves up this morning. :D

There is a lot to learn from the game today, shame we lost obviously, but its also good to get the carling cup out of the schedule and it'll hopefully- HOPEFULLY show Benitez that his £7m left back he bought in the summer is utter garbage.

And as fort Degen, I wouldn't trust him to carry out my garbage, let alone defend my team.

Been impressed with him all season, he's been our best midfielder. Maybe the Barry stuff gave him a kick up the backside, saying that he ended last season excellently too.

I don't see why Benitez was planning on selling him for 16 mil and getting Barry for 18 mil in the first place-he's ten times the player that Barry is!!!

Watching these goals Dossena was actually at fault for all four! That's almost impressive!

Don't think I've ever seen a player so positionally inept.

If Rafa had any sense he'd try and offload him in January but that won't happen and he'll play him regardless of how poorly he performs :(

There's been talk of him being sold in January and tbf to Benitez, Aurelio's been playing ahead of Dossena. Problem with Aurelio is he can't play more than 2 games in a row.

Initially the idea was to sell Alonso and get Barry for a profit, for some reason though when nobody was willing to match our price for Alonso (reportedly it was closer to £20m rather than £16m) Rafa still wanted Barry instead of a winger. Glad the way it's worked out though, Riera's been excellent and like you say Alonso's far better than Barry.

He must have seen the ball change direction otherwise he'd have given it surely?

It took a super slow-mo from an angle in the crowd to even see that. Unless Mike Riley has one of those built into his dome, I would strongly doubt it.

I was convinced it was a penalty. On seeing that it isn't, Riley got it right in hindsight but I strongly doubt he saw what was the tiniest of touches.

they might be 2nd string but id hardly call them poor

and spurs didn't exactly have a full strength team out either
