Carling Cup Quarter Final Games - **Spoilers**

Thats exactly why I suggested playing Morrison and Pogba in the middle together - because they are USED to playing together, random players (some of whom are out of position) just thrown together are never going to work

I still think the original 11 had the hallmarks of a team thought up at 2am without any thought to actually winning the match.

I just hope the Da Silva's arent too badly injured

SAF was probably at some horse race and one of his assistants was going through players to play for the game.

Assistant "Gibson in midfield?"
SAF "yea, whatever"

Thats how I imagine these carling cup squads get picked.

SAF is an idiot. he should have picked a half decent side. not good moraly to beaten by a championship side at home as well.

SAF really needs to invest in a squad or else United will become like arsenal mk2 i.e relying too much on youth

Palace were playing a team that plays togther every week. UTD put together a random team because younger players need games. Didn't deserve to get anything from that game. Palace played better.

Pogba looks very good! Give him a few more years and he'll be a first team XI.

Er, no. As I mentioned earlier that was not Palace first choice side. We have a league game tomorrow so put out an understrength side.

Total cost of the MUFC side c£60million
Total cost of the CPFC side c£1.5million

fergie underestimates opponent and overestimates our team quality? shocked.

but even our reserves don't play well.

get mutilated at home by city, barely get out of the easiest cl group. draw look shocking in many pl matches against vastly inferior sides. lose to palace. what else could he do with the time and money that he has hadthat would make you ask, 'is he really doing a fantastic job?'

Of course the fact that one Man Utd player cost 1/2 that total and has played.....parts of 3 games this season, is totally irrelevant lol

The whole Palace side may not have been 1st choice, but there were individual players that are 1st choice (according to the commentary anyway) :)

Pull Berbatov out of things and you still have a side that cost 20 times as much.
Some of the Palace players were first team players - but most were rested for the league game tomorrow.

Gibson was significantly better than Pogba when he came on and for that matter significantly better than most of his team mates. Agree Diouf was rubbish but Macheda, Park & Valencia were also far worse than Gibson tonight incidentally all players who should have been showing some semblance of movement for the holding midfielder to pick out

We must have been watching different matches, Gibson was horrible, he gave the ball away far far to often; and in the last 10 Valencia looked like the only player that could cause them any sort of trouble.

fergie has apologised to the fans, again for another pathetic home performance.

at the end of the day the carling cup isn't huge for us but why get dumped needlessly out at home in the quarters? the days of fielding such a weak team are long gone. and tbh it didn't work years ago either.

Except it did

Last year for example we beat Arsenal in the FA Cup with a midfield of Rafael, Gibson, O'Shea and Fabio. The last time we won the Carling Cup we knocked Tottenham out on the way with a midfield of Obertan, Gibson, Anderson & Park with Welbeck and Berbatov as the two strikers.

If you're going to continue with your Fergie out campaign at least have the decency to get your facts correct ;)

oh really so the reasons that we didn't win it in the 14 years between 1992 and 2006 want to have a quick word...

considering we were by far the most successful domestic club during those years tells me that statistically fielding a dysfunctional squad is not a successful tactic at all.

I saw an article saying that Lucas could be out for 6 months :( MASSIVE blow to the team.

Nothing official yet but it looks very likely. We've already recalled Shelvey from Blackpool and both Insua and Suarez have tweeted messages of support to him.

Reading between the lines, he's had his scan and more or less know the outcome but are waiting to get the opinion of a specialist.

Well I'm happy to see Shelvey back, he has been in terrific form for Blackpool.

So now because we didn't win the league cup during the time we were winning league titles and fa cups year in year out that's just another failure of Fergies tenure? Seriously you're impossible to deal with

well who else is culpable? i only pointed out that playing weakened teams in the cup has, not worked historically. you however said that it DID work. but i have shown that it had consistently not worked at all.

the only impossibility here is how you can stand by your comment that it is a valid strategy that does work?

fergie has just said that it 'wasn't a united performance' no ways..maybe because they aren't united caliber players. you can only shout and gesticulate so much at the end of the day. you bought them you picked them. they are your players. its your team man.

if you have the wrong players and cant make them.play the united way well there is one person to blame.
