Carrick Out?

I hope we get annihilated by Chelsea, I mean what a game that's going to be. Eye of the storm.

Let's embrace the masochism :D
This is me right now. I want them to be shown up. Michael ‘Feels’ Carrick. The ‘management’ (obviously use that term loosely) and the players. They deserve more booing.

Fed up!

Positive for me is that it’s an early game so can get on with my day after! :D

So carrick in charge for the away game to chelsea. Given what Spurs did to them away a couple of days ago, perhaps the thinking is that if Utd get a trouncing at the weekend that'll be enough to turn the tide away from Carrick and let them get rid of him without the fans getting on their back.

Nah, they know the fans don't want Carrick to stay as manager. They know that he isn't up to the task. They have just been caught with their pants down with no plan. I have no idea what has happened with the manager search but it hasn't gone how they want and their current options are likely Carrick or an interim like Fletcher.

If I was a betting man I would think the issues are:
  • New manager wants guarantees about spending in January that the club can't/won't give because its stupid to guarantee spending in Jan when its hard to find value or even quality.
  • No manager wants to take over with the upcoming games
  • No manager wants to take over with a full schedule of games coming up and no time to coach the team
  • We have a bit of an injury crisis with no LB or CF available and our first choice CM (Mainoo) is also injured.
  • The club might be trying to get them on a short contract until the end of the season before going all in for someone like Emery.

I mean, the next games are really quite awful:
  • Chelsea (A)
  • Roma (H) - who are very good lately
  • Aston Villa (H) - oh dear
- Intl Break -
  • Liverpool (A) :D
  • Sporting (A)
  • Brentford (H)
... then it's December, and Newcastle away.

Maybe we'll get a draw at Sporting. The time to install a new manager is really in that break, and hope for a performance at Liverpool.

It's really looking very bleak isn't it, christ.

@fez that list looks pretty logical to me, except of course to say that Mainoo has only been 1st choice CM under Carrick. As much as I like what Mainoo CAN do (but unfortunately often does not), I'm not sure the next guy will have Mainoo straight on the team sheet. He's probably one of the few players that will be sad to see Carrick's demise.

The thing is, there are no easy games in the PL these days and we're in the CL so again, likely to be against half handy sides. You can't hope for an easy run of games. Our start to the season is about as easy as its probably going to be and thats gone well hasn't it!

Been too busy to read the news these last days. Laughable they haven't got it over with by now, what are they doing? Send Wilcox packing with him.

Not that there are any good (available) alternatives out there right now, but I really hope they don't get Howe in. Not an inspiring hire at all for me, and I'm not convinced he could take the inevitable pressure cooker environment. I think Conte would be a disaster with our players as well, though seeing him give some of them a rollicking would be a good laugh - just not convinced it would have the desired affect.

If it is Howe, hopefully it's an end of season contract only and re-assess come summer. Don't lock ourselves into another long term contract on a mediocre manager with another big payout. We must be approaching a transfer windows worth of redundancy pay over the last 4 years by now.

Car-wrecks’ at the wheeeeeel!

I'm finding it all rather funny now

He's going to turn it around!
Let's make the case for the defence. (of Carrick)
Ole used to talk about fine margins and it come across as excuses but we were conned vs City, last minute worldy throws points away at Everton. Three points dropped to fine margins?
Then the injuries start to pile up - Sesko. So Man United has no striker which forces him to play Cunha or Mbeumo out of position. They are inside forwards bought for Amorims 3-4-2-1.
Shaw gets injured and there's no left back. Lenny Yoro is played at RB. Baleba isnt fit to start until the 6th game of the season by which time Mainoo is injured which is presumably his preferred midfield 2.
Cumulative effect is that players are being played out of position and the squad does not have the depth for the fixture list - underlined by vs Como, 3 keepers on the bench and two kids that played vs Como u-21s earlier in the day.

So Carrick has been let down by the club because they have not provided the depth of squad required to play two games a week. The star signing was injured and is clearly having minutes managed and has yet to be paired with his prodigal midfielder. The goals and defensive security of Casemiro have not been replaced so why should we expect it to be even as good as last season.
The last thing any coach would need in those circumstances would be to be called out by his captain and vice captain yet that's what happens so he has to handle the fall out from that which further weakens the team and increases the pile on.

For sure he's made mistakes but I'm not sure many coaches make a better fist of this mess. The Stretford End is not stupid and they see this hence the reaction at the end of the game. Ten Hag and Amorim both suffered from injuries as all clubs do but it's even more acute at Man United when the expectations are so high. I'm starting to feel sorry for him. To the point where actually I'm not that bothered about giving him more time. It's an interesting test to see if he can learn on the job and get a result or two. If he loses, so what.
He's not really had a chance to play an ideal 11 and with a squad this poor that matters more than it should. The board doesn't deserve a Champions League place so missing out on top 5 doesn't bother me - it only allows them to continue to act like they have done.

This would all make sense if they had come out Sunday evening or Monday morning. But they didn’t. They waited 48 hours.

To me this shows they can’t get who they’re after for whatever reason, so they’re backing Carrick to save face.

Romano saying it to send a message to the players! absoloute clown show city

Sends a message to the players that they don't think the manager is actually that important to how a team plays or performs on the pitch, they are so....make sure you work really hard and do what the manager tells you because its really really important.

This might be slightly less ridiculous if the manager had any pedigree or if the manager had shown any hint of actually being good at his job.

It would also hold some weight if the people responsible above the team/manager were held accountable for their **** ups. Its funny that at most big clubs, when the high ups make serious mistakes, they are treated like any other position. Expendable.

Unfortunately, Wilcox and Barrada seem to be the people dishing out the punishments rather than suffering any scrutiny themselves.

I don’t think the board want to pay Carrick off and hope he resigns after further humiliation and in the interest of the club and fans which Carrick is clearly passionate about.

Carrick is like playing football manager with downloadable tactic the next season you get found out and have to make your own or get another!

Nah, they just cannot get someone in under the conditions they want to. As I said above, there are plenty of conditions and reasons why managers wouldn't want to come in at this point.

I think they currently have two options. Keep Carrick on or appoint a caretaker like Fletcher who is unlikely to do any better. Then perhaps get a different interim in in January.

I think they have made such a ******* mess of all this that they are struggling to get anyone to agree to the job without concessions the club don't want to make.

Revolving managers hasn't worked for a number of years for Man Utd, I'm not sure why anybody thinks it will this time.

Even Jose only managed a second place, there must be far more rotten at the club than just overspending on players to fit the style of new managers that they then sacrifice to the football gods
