I see a lot of conversations about Howe or Nagelsmann, but I'm not seeing what people expect from either. Howe I don't see as a long term solution, if the aim is to win things, although we're about as far away as Pluto is from the Sun in terms of being near winning anything.

Absolutely nothing seems to be working this season. We can't create for toffee, last year we scored only 8 fewer than City. Our revamped midfield has been underwhelming to put kindly and our backline has gone backwards rapidly.

Howe I think would settle the team somewhat for the remainder of the season

You are right though, not a long term solution

And to be quite frank, I think he would turn the job down if offered unless he gets offered something he can't refuse

Club needs sorting at all levels, at the top primarily

If the Glazers would sell, they would have done it by now

They will glean every last penny from the club before that happens

Happy days

Wont be better until Dalot, Maguire, Martinez get booted out the team and we get some quality replacements

And whilst im here I had my doubts at start of the season the recruitment for this season wasnt good enough

Get someone like Howe in until the end of the season then go all out for Emery and give him whatever control he wants.

He’s currently got two ex **** United defenders in his team and is making it work. This really isn’t a bad squad. Bad managers can make any squad look awful and Carrick is awful.

We can worry about everything else once Carrick is replaced by someone remotely premier league level let alone better.

Didn't Emery struggle at Arsenal?

Someone said relegation may be better, I see why.. it may force Glazers to cut their losses. How else can we get rid of them?

Wasn't he there for only one or two seasons?

Maybe he's better suited to clubs like AV and Sevilla (IIRC).

He got to a Europa League final and was really a impossible job to take over from Wenger at the time. What would have happened if he had been given the time of Arteta? Who knows.

Also out of the American owners Arsenals are by far the best out of all of them. The debt is owned by the owners and they can structure it to allow Arsenal to compete at the highest level. People go on about Brighton and Brentford but Arsenal is a well ran club too. I can easily see them going on a run now. Arteta has managed something like 350 games now. He is no rookie anymore.

Our debt is completely commercial. The interest is catastrophic. The only thing keeping us going is our legacy history and revenue. Our spending power over the past decade has always been on the never never. Last summer's spending just showed that. As it did with previous managers.

It is a massive cloud that cannot continue. Nothing will change until the owners sell up and someone is willing to buy it for the overinflated price.

This is the main reason why I think of Howe not because he is the best man for the job but he is the best man for the job under the current circumstances. We need a manager who can get the best out of what he has.

The main goal for United as a football club is for the current owners to be gone.

Zero chance of competing against Liverpool and Arsenal when you already have one arm tied behind your back with the ownership structure. The reality is we are where we are as a mid table team for at least the next decade.

He won't get any longer at United.

I don't think the Glazers would sell if we get relegated because we'd surely sell for less than in the EPL?

@sigma

So many things need "fixing"

Starting at the top really

Too many fingers in too many pies when there is a huge amount of money involved

Meh, could discuss things for hours but it won't make any difference, not in the short term at least

I'd take a wild stab here and say they leave Carrick in the job for now..... Board / INEOS / Glaziers whoever are so inept / lacking a pair that they will continue to stand by a clearly way out his depth manager.

Looking at the next 5 games -

Chelsea away
Roma home
Villa Home
Liverpool away
Sporting Away

Who would want to come in now with those 5 games over the next 3 weeks - You could easily see United loosing all 5 of those even with a new manager in place which immediately heaps pressure on Howe / Conte etc etc

I agree with @Nate75 however - it's a total mess from top to bottom, years of neglect, years of Glaziers just sucking the club dry.... New Stadium is just ludicrous thoughts at the moment.

Might as well get them in ASAP, if Carrick loses all those the media are going to be going nuts, and that's all the big wigs care about. It's not good for business.

The New Stadium talk makes sense when you get in the mindset of business > football.

The media are just ridiculously chill about the whole thing. Somehow we are in a place where we could apparently appoint Klopp and Pep in their prime and they wouldn't do a better job than Carrick. Hes not the problem. The guy paid to dictate how we play, motivate the players and change the outcome of games apparently has minimal blame for this **** show. The cynic in me thinks that this is because its such a rich topic for them to mine again and again every weekend after our next abject performance.

I really don't give a **** about whether the structure of the club is a mess. The manager is inept and the manager, contrary to what seems to be a really popular opinion does make a massive difference.

I think the new stadium talk makes sense when you consider the financial mess the club is in. They need a way to dig themselves out of it. There are two ways. The owners wipe off that debt...or they find a way to increase revenues massively. I know that its not quite the same but Spurs are spending so much right now in no small part because they have a state of the art stadium that brings in loads of money from events outside football.

I'm not convinced the owners are going to eat £1.25bn in debt so that leaves option number 2.

I did wonder if they might just panic and keep him a bit longer, but looking at Carrick yesterday it would be negligence to leave him in place. A number of the players aren't playing for him now and letting him sit there in front of the press in these conditions is just cruel.

Nothing we can really do about the Glazers or INEOS right now, sadly.

I think (hope?) Ducker is having a bit of a stab in the dark there as not much else is being reported at this stage. The Athletic guys have all been strangely quiet too.

If it's true then it beggars belief, they should have expected we'd lose the game yesterday and had a plan in place already. Amateur hour.

We play at 12:30 on Saturday, I suppose if they make the decision today, they could get Howe in before then. No work permit issues or anything.

I'm still hoping they'll decide on Conte, but it's unlikely. All this talk of him being short term, like there's any guarantee Howe/Nagelsmann will be here in 18 months either. We might as well get the best. INEOS are cowards though.
