Carrick Out?

So they are expecting a top 5 finish from this lot. On you go lads.

This is one hell of a play from Ratcliffe, throw the players under the bus and see if they suddenly decide to believe in Carrick and turn this around. What could go wrong?

They are capable but the issue is that to have that capability they would need a good manager and less injuries to make it very likely.

We have a full squad ie. Mainoo, Shaw and Sesko back for the rest of the season and get a good manager in then I would put a fair chunk of money on still getting top 5 from this point.

Without those boys and with Carrick at the helm? I wouldn't put a quid on it. I would be pretty damn confident in fact that we would finish in the bottom half of the table and reasonably confident that we would be in a relegation battle at various points in the season.

Its such a ridiculous take. Either your manager is important or he isn't. If he isn't, then its always on the players and why bother sacking or replacing them with a better one and if he is then our current **** form surely reflects very badly on the manager.

Exactly, it's ludicrous that they've decided to diminish the value of having a good manager. Paints a worrying picture of their general competence...

Carrick falls in line and does what he’s told. They value that over a better manager who might challenge them.

Like so many people who leave United, they almost always find that United was the high point in their careers. Perhaps because they wouldn't get anything like the same position in a company outside of United with their credentials and once they go to United they are exposed as being out of their depth.

Look at the managers they've had, who's going to 'challenge' them?

Jose was not one for keeping quiet and even he fell short.

How can you simultaneously have a squad that "generationally over performed" last season and still think you can achieve top 5 this season even though it is weaker, especially through the middle, with two of the most senior players seemingly ready to throw in the towel?

"Sowwi Carrick bro"

"Ah no probs Bruni, let's hug it out"

If we over-performed to the level we did results wise last season we would have won the league if Carrick did that over a whole season. Thats how much the underlying numbers didn't play out. Thats insane. You can take quite the drop from there and still get top 5.

You're also working from a point of "we are as good as we are showing at the moment" which isn't true. We are a far better team than Carrick is making us. Our midfield should be stronger than last season. Yes, injury issues are causing problems but last season 60 points got you 5th place. 57 got you 6th and with whatever punishment City get, they will be out of the running.

A good manager could come in and still get us CL football at this stage. They would probably need a LB and perhaps a cheap backup striker to help but this squad has plenty enough talent to get there.

Defence is crap and we have no striker. I'd say top 10 at best unless other teams struggle badly. Carrick or no Carrick.

Of course Howe would get us top 3  /s not /s

You're 4 points off 6th and there's 30 games to play. Yes you've been terrible but it's incredibly early in the season to write everything off.

You had a perfect storm last season with pretty much everything going your way that could go your way but you're not as bad as you've shown this season either. Finishing outside the top 7 or 8 would be a huge failure regardless of who the manager is.

Correct.

On a regular basis Man Utd eat up managers and ditch them as soon as things aren't rosy.

They've spent more than Arsenal over the past few seasons and Arsenal stuck with Arteta, who wasn't a huge name manager, worked on a system and won the league.

Man Utd fans need to stop acting like a partner in an abusive relationship "oh don't be mad with the club, we'll change, we'll get you a nice new manager". It hasn't worked.

There's something that needs fixing behind the scenes.

Everyone knows that things need fixing behind the scenes. That has little to do with the manager being crap though. Carrick wouldn't magically become a good manager if the backroom staff were sorted any more than the back room staff would magically become good if the manager was better.

You fix whatever can be fixed. You don't ignore one issue because others exist.

But changing the manager has not fixed it in the past, not sure why anybody thinks it will now.

Changing manager will do nothing at all beyond maybe a temporary bump until the major issues are identified and resolved.

Man Utd have been revolving managers and bumps while spaffing money for some time now.

One would expect not as that means removing themselves. So the constant talk on here of ‘it needs to change from the top down’ is sort of pointless at this point.

Ineos appear to be past the point of showing that things will change for the better now or that executive level changes will happen if things aren’t working so, I guess, we’re stuck with the only thing that can seemingly happen which is changing staff beneath Wilcox’s level, i.e. managers and their related staff, medical teams, physios etc

And if I hear ‘it’s rotten from top to bottom’, ‘the rot starts from the head’, ‘need to identify issues from top to bottom’ etc, I’m going to scream. The issues have long been known, it’s the Glazers and anyone at an exec level that works with them. That’s not going to change and it’s not revelatory stating it time and time again. (That’s not aimed at you, Sigma)
