Case recommendation below £85 delivered

I have seen the Lian Li but looks ugly to be honest. I only want it to be as silent as possible. The one I have got now has got a few 60mm fans that do my head in! :(

Lian li looks looks much better when it is sitting beside you, but it makes one hell of a racket.

Try disconnecting the case fans. Monitor the temperatures. I bet it won't rise massively with them turned off.

I have one of those silver ATCs cases for sale at the moment, I do have the black version of it however its currently holding my main rig so unfortunately isnt for sale...

Nothing wrong with silver cases, especially high quality ones look much nicer than you'd think...

its a shade over your budget but the black wavemasters are still nice cases tbh.

I know, I am sure silver is great too. Its only that all my drives are black!

Again, the only reason I am changing case its the noise. What is the quietest case available at the moment on the £85 price mark.

All cases are silent. It's the stuff you put in them that makes all the noise. What are the top 3 noisiest components in your PC?

Quite recently someone posted to the effect that they were deeply unhappy that they had spent thousands of pounds having silenced the CPU, northbridge, graphics cards and hard disks only to be quite deafened by the sound of the optical drives spinning up every few minutes.

If you want high performance it is VERY difficult to get quiet without spending a lot of money. The best quiet ie. sound-deadened cases in the world will basically achieve the same result as putting a big cardboard box over your PC, they will reduce the noise, but not wipe it out completely.

well, my CPU is probably the noisiest but I am also getting an Artic Cooler for it. Graphics card wise is a 7950GX2 and its quite silent so no complains there. I also have got an Akasa HD fan and the northbridge fan on my MSI Neo4 Platinum probably makes a bit of noise too.

THe main problem i reckon is the 3 60mm fans that my current case has got though :)

What happens if you just turn those fans off? They probably don't move more than 20cfm between them, so try just turning them off.

After Yewen posted that he had turned all his case fans off, I tried it and actually they don't make a blind bit of difference. Not even 1c increase. The 120mm fan in the PSU seems to move enough air that it keeps everything fine.

LOL - My wife you terminate my masculinity if she even thought I would so such a thing.

Well, its a xmas present. I will try disconnecting the fans though.

Get a Lian Li PCG-50B and a couple of really quiet Scythe, Panaflo, Yate Loon etc. type fans. Then 5v them. That will be pretty darn quiet.

I haven't seen that one anywhere.

I think I am going to go for the Lian Li PC-7 Plus in Silver :) to match my monitor. What do you guys think? Will that be silent enough? Do I need to change any of the fans?

PC-7 is a very good case. Budget end of Lian-Li range, but still a great case. Stock fans are ok, but you'd be best to get some new quiet ones if you are after a quiet system. It's a cheap case, so you can put that cash you'll save to use on some decent fans.

:)

nobody knows for the uk but its already out for the damn americans
