Case recommendation please

WJA96, what CPU cooler have you got in that V600? Looks like space may be tight. Will it fit an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro do you know?

It looks like a Thermaltake Blue Orb. I don't think a Freezer 7 will fit - it's too tall.

I'm using a Thermaltake Blue Orb 120mm cooler. It's very good in this situation. I'm running an E6600 overclocked to 3.6GHz with that cooler, so performance isn't an issue.

And I doubt a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro would fit tbh.

No, it definitely won't. If you want the BEST cooler for that case then you need the Silverstone NT-06 or NT-06 Lite if your PSU has a 120mm cooling fan.

Yeah, I figured the Arctic Freezer wouldn't fit looking at the position of that PSU. I may get a Blue Orb with this case then. Seems a good solution. I'll only be using an E6300 and will be overclocking, but not to ridiculous levels. Silverstone NT-06 looks a good cooler, but at nearly double the price (OCUK don't sell it though) I'm not sure it's worth it for my needs.

It's more than twice the cooler: it's worth every penny. If your PSU has a 120mm fan, you genuinely don't need a fan on the NT-06, it's gigantic!

But surely that would only apply if the PSU had a bottom mounted fan? Yours is top mounted so there is no fan on the CPU cooler side.

Looking at the pics of the NT-06 though, I questioned if that would even fit anyway. Looks tight.

Actually (just before anyone who's seen me recently calls 'foul!') - I probably ought to own up - I'm currently running water cooling in my V600B and I'm getting a custom V600B based passive water cooled rig built in the new year.

I've got it on a Zalman Reserator at the moment and I'm not running any case fans whatsoever. Just the graphics card and the PSU fan are plenty. And it's a 3.6GHz E6400 in there too. Idle temp 22C, 24/7 100% load temp 55C. As with most of these great ideas, I nicked it from Yewen.

The PSU mounts either way up smartie-pants. It's meant to be tight. It definitely does fit though.

OK, thanks, I wasn't being a smartie pants though :). I'm thinking of using the Seasonic S12 430W or the Corsair HX 520W in this setup, so assuming I got the NT06-Lite (without the fan), which of these would be the better choice? Unless their is a better choice I'm unaware of. The Corsair is £20 more, but I think that has a bottom mounted fan which may be better.

I think I was meaning it more in the affectionate mocking sense rather than anything negative. If I caused any offence I'm sorry. It was meant to be a witty quip, not a put-down.

As for choice of PSU - I was using (and still am) Akasa Paxpower 460W units. I cannot comment on the others, but the Akasa's are fine.

You made me cry. :(

Mmm...never noticed the Paxpower before. Looks a pretty decent PSU for the money. Wonder how that compares to the Seasonic for noise. 18dB is pretty quiet though!

You're absolutely certain though that with with a PSU facing fan side towards the NT06-Lite (with no attached fan) this would be enough to sufficiently cool an overclocked E6300? Just checking... ;)

I could tell from the way you swung your handbag you were the sensitive type ;)

I've honestly no idea. The Paxpower's get good reviews and I bought 5 when they were on a special offer.

Pretty certain. How about if it doesn't work to your satisfaction, I'll take it off your hands for what you paid for it? Advice with a money back guarantee!

I didn't realise you could have a PSU facing the other way with the fan going inwards. Seems a bit inconventional, but I'll take your word for it! :) How much air does the fan in a PSU push then, compared to the fan that would sit on top of the NT06 for example?

My paxpower 460W is the loudest thing in my PC... It makes me sad :( I don't have much to compare it with, since the Seasonic in my brother's PC isn't worked as hard and is correspondingly quiet, but I intend to bin it for a properly quiet one at the earliest opportunity. By no means a bad PSU though, it's well priced and hasn't done anything to annoy me apart from the noise, which is still fairly reasonable.

I'd buy it. Put up a Price Check in MM and I'll make you a fair offer.

[Edit]Sorry - you need to enable your trust account and then tomorrow you'll be able to access Member's Market[/Edit].

Ah hah! I have no idea what you're talking about! I thought I'd read about a member's market on here, but I've never seen any sign of it actually existing. So, how do I access it?

The Paxpower's likely to stay in the PC for a couple of months yet, but I can certainly let you know when it comes out, you never know, i might get carried away ;)

It's actually how it is shown on the Lian Li website. I found it stole air from the Blue Orb so I reversed it. Now I have it facing inwards so it pulls air across the heat pipes on my DS4.

As for how much air it moves, I would say it's moving a little less than an Akasa Amber - say 25-40 cfm? But the wingspan on that NT-06 cooler is humungous. It's actually designed to sit under the PSU in a Silverstone Sugo. Have you seen the photographs on the Silverstone website?
