Cat advice

Nothing wrong with this thread tbh

last 2 cats my nan has had she got more aless the same way you have now hanging around house/garden and getting into house and eating her cat food down for her cats

After having the family cat move away from home years ago, I would still say that what you're doing is perfectly OK. If, however, you get calls from some poor little girl asking if you have her cat, I'd let it go.

UPDATE

The cat belongs to our next door neighbour lol.

We had someone from the RSPCA come round and take a look at her because she developed a severe limp in her right hind leg. I couldn't get her in the box to take her to the vet, when I tried she got really distressed and started breathing really heavy.

The chap from the RSPCA checked her for a chip and also told us she's twelve years old and her name is Molly. He told us to just let her out and she will go back providing we stop feeding and fussing over her. He also added that cats are probably the most disloyal animals ever :p

Gutted that she was chipped because was hoping to adopt her. We even bought cat food, catsmilk and a litter tray :(

Oh well. We're going to adopt a kitten instead early next year so its not too bad. Here's another video of Molly or Scraps as we liked to call her -

Assuming there's no collar you can take the cat to the vet and ask them if it's been chipped. If it has, the chip will contain all the info about the owner that you'll need to contact them. If the cat hasn't been chipped, you can treat it as a stray and decide whether you want to keep it or let someone like the RSPCA rehome it instead.

This. +1

Hi guys,

The wife and I are renting in the South Wimbledon area. Since moving into this place back in April a cute little cat has been scoping us out to see if we're kosher. On Sunday the cat decided we were cool enough to associate with and is now quite friendly with us i.e. comes in, plays on the rug, expects heaps and heaps of fuss and also expects a bit to eat when it visits.

This morning it was waiting outside the patio door to the garden looking into our living room. When it saw me come into the living room it got all excited hehe :D

Anyways, whilst the cat looks pretty clean and flea-free its a little scrawny and we can't tell if it has an owner(s). Whilst I don't mind feeding it and giving it lots of attention it's using my garden as a toilet.

Should I stick some posters up with the cats photo asking who the cat belongs to? Also the wife asked if we should take it to the vet to get it checked out since it pretty much visits us everyday and sticks around until we shoo it out when we're going to bed.

I don't mind looking after the cat and making sure its in good health because I love animals. At the same time I don't want some angry old biddy knocking on our door accusing us of seducing her cat away from her.

Any advice would be nice :)

How very selfless:). My girlfriends mum is in exaactly the same situation and has pretty much taken the cat in.

Ginger cats - slightly mad, don't talk that much but when they do it's very, very cute. Don't really like rules much and are perhaps the most insane of all moggies! Love playing, slightly hyper.

I think you must have met our Murray :)

Unlucky mate :( There have been so many times I could have easily taken in a cat that took a liking to us! In fact 2 of our cats were our neighbours, but they got a little yappy dog, which became more important than the cats to them. They kept the cats shut outside, cats found out I give good food and cuddles, then decided to shack up with us instead! The neighbours did't care, they moved away. What lovely owners.

Bet you're looking forward to the new arrival next year, kittens rule! :D

We did actually pop round to the neighbours to let them know the cat had been us over the last 2-3 days but nobody was in. I'm a littl bit dubious as to whether or not the cat is theirs. Its not been long since they moved in next door (pretty sure they moved in very early June) and the cat was checking us out late April

In addition to the above when we initially started feeding the cat she ate like there was no tomorrow which made me think the neighbours were neglecting her. When she turned up with a limp thats when we got worried and kept her indoors with us.

Will see if I can pop around tonight. Oh I did actually forget to mention that the chap from the RSPCA said that she has some sort of growth on her hind leg which may be causing the limp. As a result we should stop feeding her because the owner may have a specific diet for her that contains medicine to prevent the limp

Keep trying to get in touch with the neighbours and ask them what treatment the cat is getting for the limp. If they can't give an answer and you still think the cat is being underfed or neglected, I'd get the RSPCA out again :)

bee sting or most likely a its been bitten by another cat causing infection / abscess.

Out two muppets bit each other not long ago and both ended up limping round, both needed metacam and antibiotic shots. Claws, if you do keep the cat make sure you get pet insurance as vets are no longer cheap.

Ill see what the situation is when I get back home. Before I left for work this morning I looked out into the garden and she was sitting on the edge of the decking looking quite content. Think she's been in our garden all night since we let her out yesterday evening..AWWWWW

What colour is it? Personally from experience I've found:

Black cats - very vocal, like to talk to you and will essentially never seem to stop complaining. Are obsessed with being petted and brushed.

Ginger cats - slightly mad, don't talk that much but when they do it's very, very cute. Don't really like rules much and are perhaps the most insane of all moggies! Love playing, slightly hyper.

White cats - most content/happy cats, like being petted but seem more fanatical about sleeping than anything else.

We currently have a black tom and his brother is a ginger, they couldn't be less alike. Black Tom tops the scales at 6.5Kg and is one musclebound hunter. Likes killing pigeons and crows. Ginger one likes bringing in baby mice :( then throwing them about like some sick Prototype-killer style cat! :)

Love the summary, genuine lol from me :p :D

Awww too cute them cats are. Just wanted to point out that as you are renting I assume you rented somewhere that allows cats? If not I would first talk to the landlord to see if you are allowed cats in the flat/house.

Dexter would be all of the above, mad as a march hare, spends much of the day wandering around the house with his favorite soft toy clamped firmly between his jaws, - never had a cat that owns a cuddly toy before !

Here he is having a cat dream - complete loon I tell thee...

meh, cat's aren't disloyal at all, when they are mistreated and ignored they go off looking for someone better though.

WE've had cats and they've never smegged off anywhere, and other cats inbetween that live on the street that come in. One, a ickle girl down the road named Tinkerbell,(which you can't help but feel like a plonker calling the cat over when out in the street) basically stopped going home because they got another cat and a dog. Theres always a reason for cats to leave.

Sounds very much like it was abandoned or lost by the previous owners. Its very possible that the old owners moved close enough that the cat simply found its way back home, in which case it is fair to try and contact them(assuming its owners that have moved). Could simply have been a case of cat escaping on moving day.

Cat collars are a pain, only one cat we've had would wear one. We got two kittens a couple years ago and they cry if the collars on tight and if its looser they'll have it stuck in their gob within seconds as they get their jaw under it but not their snout.

Keep an eye out for the new neighbours, if its not theres see if they, or their estate agent or something has contact details for the old owners(vet might have a mobile number for the owners). If you've done all you can really, claim the cat really. You'd almost certainly find that once moved in, eating all its meals and sleeping inside it will stop crapping in your garden and start crapping in other gardens :p

Great thing about cats, they always crap in other peoples gardens.
