Cat advice

To be honest not all owned cats have collars. Ours has a habit of loosing his along with the name tag on it. So please don't pressume if he hasnt got a collar that he is a stray.

ll I can suggest is take a photo of him and knock on your neighbours house within a 50-75m and ask if they own the cat or know of the owner.

Our neighbours ( a Somali family) have two cats, both don't have collars on, both are kicked out at night, neither of them is neutered and both seem to spend most of the time either on top of my cars convertible roof or chilling in my back garden. Personally I know the kids in the family dont treat the cats ver well as I saw the littl girl trying to throw the cat at her brother hence why they come round to our garden as cats know if you are a cat lover or not.
So please don't pressume just because it doesn't have a collar and isn't chipped that he is a stray and you can own him. Please try to track the owners down, if you have no luck and you are willing then take him in but at least try to find the real owners someone is bound to be missing a cat.

PS not tru about cats crapping in other peoples garden as they will crap where it suits them. ;)

Completely OT but how's it going Jeet? Long time!

Ey up Chris. All good mate. Moved house for a third time in London and we made friends with a cat. Check out the videos of her in this thread :)

Ill definitely be going round to the owners this evening to see whats happening. I'm a little bit annoyed really because when you look at the cat you can blatantly see her limping as in she doesn't put any major weight on the rear hind leg. How on Earth could they possibly miss this????

Haha, white cats nails mine on the head. But you also missed being greedy fat B*****'s.

Behold....the ultimate behemoth:

Can anyone sum up a tabby?

Mine is basically 'The Boss'. It's not our house, it's his house and we are merely lodgers. We will only be allowed to touch when he says it's ok to touch, otherwise you will get the 'stare of dooooooom'. If he wants to sit on your chest and whack you on the nose at 4am, he will do it and tough if you don't like it.

Having said that, I love the little scamp to bits and regularly scoop him up whilst singing 'who's mummies handsome little boy?!'. I swear if he could roll his eyes he would...:D

Cat culture summarised completely :D

What colour is it? Personally from experience I've found:

Black cats - very vocal, like to talk to you and will essentially never seem to stop complaining. Are obsessed with being petted and brushed.

our 3 black cats have been the total opposite of that ! big lazy laidbac cats who have never made a sound :p

infact we have never had a cat that his miaowed :S even our cats kittens never did and still dont no that they live with other people

none of our cats have had collars after one had an accident with one once. they dont really go much further than the end of the street. they do get abducted by neighbours sometimes though  and our old cat from a rescue home used to follow my dad to the pub. he got pretty annoyed at having to carry the cat home and lock it in before making the walk there again:p

HAHA that cat is awesome Knubje.

It looks like it could do with some captions :p

OP: I'd do what the good folk have already suggested: stop feeding it so much and go round the neighbourhood with a photo an ask if it's their cat. If no one owns up to owning it then I'd just keep it. 12 years old is quite old and if you're going to take care of it then so much the better.

Or I'd just get one of my own so I don't have to worry if I'm depriving someone of their pet.

UPDATE:

Folks, sorry to revive this thread but its more out of concern if anything.

The wife and I are starting to think the cat - Molly - might be dead. In a previous update I advised you guys that someone from the RSPCA came around and checked the cat out for a chip. Well the cat was chipped and it turned out that it belonged to the next door neighbours. Since finding this out we have been around to the neighbours 3 times as a sort of courtesy call, each time nobody has answered.

A few days after finding out who the cat belonged to, the cat stopped visiting completely. All of a sudden it just wasnt sitting in our garden or wasn't sitting on our decking waiting for us to wake up and let her in.

Recently we seem to be having a bad problem with flies sitting on our front door. There are quite a few of them and whats worse is that they dont fly away like a normal fly would. They kind of fall off the wall or front door and then just casually climb back onto the wall or door. I can quite happily stomp on them for a good few minutes because I hate the buggers, but then there will just be more of them the next day.

Out of curiosity, this morning I looked over onto the neighbours (mollys owners) front door and they seem to be having the same problem (albeit a lot more), which got me thinking -

(a) Is the cat dead inside?
(b) Are the owners dead inside?

This might sound bad but I don't give a monkeys about the owners, I'm more concerned about the cat.

In any case I've just fired off an email to the landlord so that he can get in touch with the council.

Any advice in the meantime?

It does sound a bit suspect, I have to say.

So when was the last time you actually saw the neighbours? Maybe you could do what the RSPCA does and put a bit of tape across their front door/door frame, go back a day or 2 later and see if the tape has been broken. It might be that they've gone away and just left some rubbish laying around somewhere, which could be attracting flies, or it could be something worse.

Can you see into their house through the windows at all?

Windows have curtains drawn. Havent's seen the neighbours since the first time we popped around to advise them that their cat had been staying with us for 3 days.

I'll try the tape thing. Landlord has also got back to me advising that we contact the council so I'll do that as soon as I get home. There is a bit of a bad smell emanating from next door
