Cat gone

We found a cat once, took it to the vets to get it checked out, It was chipped and got re-united with its owner, turned out it was 16 years old and had been missing for 6 months!

Anyhow cats are hardy creatures, ours have been gone for a few weeks on end and returned ok. except once were it returned 10 minutes later with a swollen bleeding eye (think it was hit by a car). We now have cat fencing all round the garden ;)

I loved the thing for many years, in its later years however we both just kind of put up with each other! I would feed it, he would crap all over the place. Cats don't need or want much human affection, 5mins when you get home from work and feed em, then they off again.

I wouldn't worry too much about leaving the cat out for 20 mins. Most cats go out for hours at a time, some even a few days :)

One of our cats, who lives to be with us and loves our attention like nothing else, vanished for 2 weeks a couple of summers back. Turned out there's a family in the caravan park nearby who were feeding him better then we were and he was happy there till they went lol. As said cats are amazingly self sufficient, unlike dogs who wouldn't last 2 days alone. Also as said cats tend to survey the area when let out for the first time, as they have specific territorial ranges. Females less then males by a long way, but still large enough.

Yeah my other cat can be left outside all day/night with no problems, just this one is carrying kittens and was the first time she was let out so was a little worried :)

ours did the same... shes a house cat really, calling her for hours etc... soon as we tapped her food bowl with a knife she came running... typical cat.

Sometimes cats go for days. It's rare but they do. This either means they've gone on a long adventure or they've got trapped somewhere.

If you think this has happened, my advice is not to go out and call all the time, but also do nothing but listen. We found my ex's cat this way who was trapped in a garage.

I remember our cat disappeared for a few days this year. 3 days after he left, my parents were walking in a park nearby and heard meowing. They look up and see the cat stuck in massive tree. They had to go back the following day with a ladder and rescue him. He didn't stop sitting on someone's lap for a week purring away. The affection wore off after that time lol.

Glad your Cat returned mate, I let mine out at about 4AM this morning, and the little git did not come back in, so I went to bed.

I have not long got up and have to goto work, he's still not back so he gets to stay out until 4AM again....
I love him & hate him in equal measure! :D

20 minutes?
Mine likes to disappear for weeks at a time even in his old age.

I think his record is a month and a couple of days, he's a good hunter though.
