Cat gone

I turn into a small girl when ours do the disappearing act, I'm 99% certain that Murray has a spot that he can see and hear us from but we cant see him, and he waits till we are done calling him then just mooches in, He then gets some little treat for coming back, thus reinforcing the "coming home is good" mentality .

One of our cats disappeared about this time last year, never saw it again. :(

Although another one disappeared for about a month then turned up as if nothing had happened. :p

LOL, Just got in from work, opened the window (his cat flap :o) - He's come in, taken a dump in his litter tray & gone out again! - Its hammering down outside & he strangely loves water! :D

With a new cat and being worried about them leaving, get some kind of treats, or dried food in a bag you can shake. Give the cats a couple treats now and then, they get used to the shaking sound being uber nice food, so we can generally get them in when needed. Clinking their bowls works quite well also, we waited quite a while till we let them out though as we got them at around 6 weeks old so were just too small to be out as we have foxes now and then during the day and lots at night.

Still get very worried when they won't come in at night now and then, near foxes fighting and fear the worst, but 2 years and they're doing fine.

That's good advice :)

Oh, also forgot though seems fairly obvious, starve the crap out of them. IN all seriousness, the first time we let them out, we held off lunch an hour or two so they were hungry. The second we opened the doors they ran through, were distracted but it was only 20-30mins before they remembered their stomachs weren't full and they came back in. We fed them and that was it for the day, we let them out longer each time and they got used to the whole coming back for food thing very easily.

They really are very good but still a royal pain in the behind sometimes, they come in for food but are less willing to come in for the night when they know they are going to get locked in. If it wasn't for the ridiculous number of foxes around here at night we'd just let them come and go as they please.

This is why I don't like cats...they do whatever the hell they want.

They own you not the other way around! Dogs know their place!

Glad he came back though, must be pretty worrying!

My cat does this all the time. Spends his entire time outside playing/hunting, comes home for a toilet break, then off for a bit more outdoor shenanigans.

never thought about removing the litter tray so he poos outside ?

preferably on another forumers lawn. even though ive still never seen that happen in a full life of cat owning

We got a female kitten about 3 months ago. We also have a male cat of about 5 years. Just want to know what happens about territory when we let the kitten out? Do they both share the same territory or?

But 2 weeks is a short amount of time for it to become comfortable with its surroundings.

rubbish.
we have had our cats for near on 8 years and moved about 6 times in the time.
never kept them in for longer than 2 weeks and they have never gone missing within a month of being let out of a new property.

Have had a cat now for two weeks and finally let it out into the garden however it has somehow managed to escape and I cannot find the thing :( What are the chances it will come back??

Do you already have another cat?

Shouldnt you be more worried about what happens when he gets her pregnant? :D
