Can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct standard for terminating cat6 cabling on a patch panel. We have had some new wiring installed but the "professionals" have removed the outer casing of the cable (fortunately havent untwisted each pair!) from the side of the patch panel to each socket!

In terms of how much of the outer casing should be stripped and the amount of twisted pairs should be visible.

The outer casing should only be stripped back as far as is necessary to terminate it.

What you describe sounds like what you'd see with telephone cabling. The outer casing stops at the end of the patch panel and you have the individual pairs visible across the back of the panel. For multi-pair telephone cabling it's the only real option, and it doesn't matter as each pair is an individual circuit.

Assuming you paid for cabling installed to a Cat6 standard, ask to see the results from certifying each run.

Did you pay for this?

Tell them to sort it out. Google image for 'cat6 patch panel' that's how much cable you should use :)

Yup, was part of a building refit but the decision on which contractor wasn't mine. They are coming back next week to "discuss".
