Catalyst 7.7 Released

So, just to clarify, these drivers have a performance drop in them for 2900 cards? If so I'll stick with my 7.6's

They do in games like CSS/HL2, but they also enable Edge Detect for 12x and 24xAA.

well for me it started out well, CCC worked for the first time in a month and all looked peachy, 3D06 result was down a bit but who cares. Then the problems started. ETQW Beta just BSOD's upon load so I've had no option but to go back to the none CCC working 7.6 drivers.

It was late and I simply couldn't be bothered to do any real investigation as to what the BSOD was, all I noted was the file had ATI in it before I wearily killed the power and went to bed.

The gutting part was I had just got this machine stable for a week as well and even though CCC wouldnt work (i had a .net update from MS pencilled in as the main culprit for that, and as it was an ATI/AMD known issue it wasn't troubling me).

I'm killing my Vista X64 partition this weekend in favour of XP X64 so I'll see if it is a borked windows install (could be). If not this 2900 is bin bound and I will be heading in the NV direction for the first time in nearly 8 years.

Screw the 7.7's, i can confirm these drivers cause the memory crash in world in conflict with XP as i tried it with 7.6 drivers and they work perfectly.

The full game wont have much performance improvements, they make out there will be but it just wont happen, might aswell get some benchies now to compare with the final product, its not going to be much different.

Do you have any proof that they wont? Or are you just making that up?

Sounds like theres something up with the rest of your system rather than it being the ATI drivers.

Tom,
Since you seem to have a connection to ati would it be possible for you to find out if software crossfire has changed since cat 7.5?

It worked fine in 7.4 but any driver after doesn't even display the option in the CCC.

Reverting back to 7.4 fixes the problem.

Does these drivers fix the fan issue or is that still there? Woulda thought that would be one of the first things they'd fix since it was so obvious.

Apparently there is no fan issue, this thing can spin up even when your not in Windows.

I must be the only one i know off that never had an issue with the fan, i installed the entire bundle off the cd, drivers, hdmi sotware etc and the fan never once spun up, was easily as quiet as my gtx is now.

And does anyone know what happened the version sapphire were bringing out with the oversized heatpipes? that never seemed to materialise.

You think forcing the fan to 25% will be safe?

Doubt it as the core does run really hot. Just dunno how i was able to get that working, i ended up reinstalling drivers off the net and the fan started kicking up, was afraid at the time the card was cooking itself.
