Catalyst 8.8 released

Not getting far with ATi support so far. At the moment it's the usual:-

1. Try updating chipset drivers
2. Is your PSU powerful enough
3. Reinstall the 8.8 driver suite

lol. Sigh!

Mine has been fine since i installed yesterday, but today having played Crysis, when i closed it, i got an error message stating "driver error has occured and it has been recovered successfully" but the screen flashed on and off then got the blue screen of death, didnt get a chance to read what it said.

I thought these drivers had increased stability, but not sure they have. Ive only overclocked it using the Catalyst Center, not touched bios etc etc as thats beyond me at the moment. Anyone found a fix to this error message?

no problems here. Grid running fine with edge detect and 16af.

No problems on aything else either.

I did do a complete uninstall, driver sweeper (or is it cleaner?) pro.

Installed drivers first, then ccc after reboot.

Love these new drivers :D

Suprised to see so many people having probs instaling the 4870 and the x2. I just uninstaled the drivers from the 3870x2, took the card out, put the new one in, installed drivers from cd and working no probs.

yet to try the 8.8's but apparently not much difference in performance so might just wait till 8.9

Performance gains minimal except for 500-1000 points in vantage if you are into benching.

However the list of bug fixes/issues with games resolved goes to more than two pages!

Therefore you would be mad not to use the 8.8 as there is sure to be at leats one game on the list you play.

tbh i'm going back to Asus' drivers. Nothing but problems since installing the 8.8's. Crysis doesn't want to run in DirectX10 mode, and I have had random fan faults.

Bah! Decided to have one more play with the 4850's in crossfire over the 4870, but I just can't be dealing with the inconsistencies in crossfire...

When it works properly it's great, but when it doesn't it's just a bundle of frustration...

Tips for people with crossfire and Crysis. If when you start it up it seems choppy, let it run for a minute or two - it seems to "adapt" after a little bit.

Anyway, time for me to remove these 4850's again. This time for good :(

second card just arrived and the game still runs the same, lag lag lag ffs :(

do i have to reinstall drivers if i use crossfire? wanna put this second card in too and see what happens.

Does anyone have this problem where the screen res reverts to 1440 by 900 and wont go any higher? Ive had this problem three times now since installing the 8.8 Catalyst drivers and I usually have my screen res at 1680 by 1050.

I wonder if it's a chipset thing? Me and you both have P35 chipsets....

thats what i thought but greebo says his is fine and he's on the p35 chipset but i'm running out of stuff that it could be and thats one of the things left to test.

popped in the second card and not sure if its working right,

3dmark06 score is up from 12.5k to 17.5k. seems about right.

crysis bench results are up from 37fps to 55fps

furmark and pt knights benchmark scores haven't changed at all.

grid graphics are mostly missing (only the wheels show up and no car) and i get less than 1 fps :(

cod4 fps suck, getting 40fps at 1280x1024

gonna try a few more tests

Difference is your running xfire? I;m only running one card.

the crysis situation is totally unacceptable :(

why the **** should you have to play it in dx9 mode to not get graphics corruptions!

ATI are very lucky they have the best performing gfx card at the moment as they would be losing so many customers to Nvidia who have far far superior drivers!

i wasn't up until today, bought a new card last night to see if my card was dodgy but the new one is the same.

You got Vista?. If so, make sure SP1 is installed fully. My m8 was having all sorts of problems until that was properly installed. (Vista x64)

i've installed it before, a while ago now infact and it gave me nothing but problems.

you have to set your location to the US and then install it but after you change it back to UK updates screw up cos vista tries to get updates that it needs but wont install them as your set to UK again.

unless all thats changed recently?
