Apparently they do like from what I've read.

The latest 8.12 hotfix drivers have boosted my Crysis scores by about 10-20%

I think there are issues with the card communicating with some amplifier devices and refusing to send sound and things like that.

Yes they often lose sync with the amp if you put your computer into standby, which causes windows to restart when you try to resume. Also if you change inputs on the amp while your HTPC is on, then switch back it gives you a blank screen. There are big incompatibilities with certain amps too such that it won't work at all without a huge amount of fiddling. Many can only get 2 channel sound instead of 6-8 channel.

Understanding what you have written makes me wonder would I be better off with a NVidia graphics option when building a HTPC..?

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H AMD 780G Micro-ATX

...board which uses the ATI 3200 onboard GPU. I assumed that this would have been a good option for 1080p via the HDMI socket, carrying both video and audio..?

Ive heard rumours that the 9.1's will be labelled "8.561.3" ?

That is the current 8.12 Hotfix drivers that are out.
