I believe the best HTPC mobos/gfx cards at the moment (at least the ones with fewest problems) are the nvidia 9300/9400 onboard ones. Stick in a cheapo core2 duo and off you go. The Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H has been getting good writeups from the HTPC community.
