Caught by a camera!

It depends. If it is South Wales Scameraship, they will say you were doing 33mph, (revised up to 37.xx) then when you challenge it will then say "pay up or go to court" and offer no course.

When you go to court armed with evidence from the tracking system on your employers vehicle and expert witnesses, they don't bother turning up and you are out of pocket anyway.

In my experience anyway.

See I can't recall if there were any road markings either as a lot of roads around here have missing road markings or very worn ones, so if the camera which I believe was a gatso, how can they judge the speed?

If you do the course then you do not get penalised by your insurance company but the Police do record it and won't offer you another...

Some insurance companies are looking at recording attendance, best to look at your policy details as you may need to advise them.

Andi.

Sounds like a great defense to use if you go to court ;)

Not using as a "defence" I'll hold my hand up and say I should have payed more attention. It's not like I'm the first person to have done it. I'm sure everybody at some point has looked at their speedo to realise they are going faster than they thought they were.

I got done for doing 34 in a 30. Which i find mental.

that was 4 years ago though and Actually i was doing 45 just before i saw the van and i slammed the anchors on and he caught 34.

I have actually driven @ or around the limit ever since. was too close a call.

SP30 doesnt make a great deal of difference, 42 day ban on an SP30 and it barely registered on my insurance.

(SP30 = 'normal' roads offence, SP50 = Mway offence).

Yeah my SP30 made no difference to my insurance pre-renewal, and my renewal (last month) was cheaper than the year before by about £50 anyway.

Lets just hope 2 weeks pass without any letter.

If you get letter, just suck it up to bad experience, and move on

SP30 in 12/2012 - and CU80 - 01/2013 that need to expire on mine, I have had others in the past but thats what I have now

I was led to believe that if there were 2 vehicles in the same shot they were ignored.

Which one triggered the camera.
ANPR cameras can easily see who it was speeding.

If it was me, I would write them a letter with some thing along these lines...

You have not given me my right to a trial by jury, I have not been arrested, charged or sentenced, I have not been granted my right to face my accuser (a camera) therefore I am writting to you to plead "not guilty" to all accusations you have made against me as you actually have no evidence that I was actually in control of the car at the time. (a pic of a car isn't evidence of me personally)
Please note, there is no lawful obligation for me to fill out your forms or name any other person that may have been using the car on that day. Doing so would be an act of perjury.

And send it back with the forms they sent me, incomplete.

I wouldn't ever recommend anyone else take this approach though, it's just what I would do.
