Cause of two flat tyres at rear

Cracking under stress would lead to radial damage pattern, not a vertical slash like that.

I have done similar damage to a tyre when I hit a brick at motorway speed, but it wasn't that clean and obviously wasn't both sides.

If the tyres are not that old then could it be a manufacturing defect? Worth asking.

Yeah it was a thought but not sure. They were brand new 3 weeks ago. I've got another 2 coming for a mobile fitting on Weds and I'll ask the fitter what he thinks.

The front 2 were also replaced at the same time so...

Are the fronts the same size as the rears?

There's only a slash on one side of the rears?

To me those tyres look like they have been driven on while at low pressure. So the problem might have started before you parked.

Jesus, 400 for two tyres.

Tyre prices can be crazy - the range for one of my vehicles is £100-200 per tyre on the size rims I have on it with decent tyres around £120-130, if the original owner had gone for the optional next rim size up they start at something like £179 each just for budget brands :(

Some of the flooding in Somerset was crazy yesterday - I saw all kinds of **** left in the road, which had been washed along by the flood water, when it started to go down by the time I was coming home late at night. There was a few abandoned cars where people had driven into/over stuff hidden in the water.

Some Anti EV nutter - stuck a screwdriver or something the in the tyre - then you've driven on them which has cause the tear.

That's my 2p's worth....

I would say that looks like knife damage. To have two flats on the rear with them being only 3 weeks old, come on. this is intentional damage.

it's a std range so front wheels aren't driven ? so not subject to same forces.
nothing wrong with the regen/braking such that rear wheels have been locking up stressing the tyres, maybe breaking bead seal against wheels & leaking
was installer the same mobile whose putting the replacements on.

Need to see pictures of the tyre on the other side really.

I initially thought a knife due to how clean it was but from looking again, it seems like more of a split, as you can see it continues into the tread area.

Both tyres at the same time is suspicious though...

It's been driven on while flat after being knifed though. So the cut would have split further than the original knife damage.

I have had two tyres go at once on the left side but that was because I hit a massive pothole on some country lane. Both wheels looked fine but were buckled on the inside.
