Hey all

Don't usually post about cars but this caught my eye... My boss is a total car nut and owned pretty much every exotic car from Ferrari's to Lambos, but his latest passion is Porkers. must be tough being rich :(

He already has a 997 that has had about 20-30k thrown at it via engine and suspension mods, which is kicking out 550hp  (i refuse to ride in it and it's apparently left GT3's standing at track which aint bad for a turbo) but now has gone a step further..

He just bought a 2009 Cayman S purely as a track toy, and first thing he did was put on rollers and it was putting out 296bhp, sounds tame... then the crazy fool has put a turbo on it, lowered it, new suspension, new brakes and had it re dyno'd at 485bhp.

Here is a piccy of roughtly what it looks like, I must get piccys of his next time he comes into office and post 'em up as this is a stock one..his apparently is already sporting bonnet vents and other riceness lol

Anyway sorry to ramble about someone elses car.. I just can't imagine what this is gonna be like to drive, a TRUE wolf in sheeps clothing and there is no way in hell I'm gonna have a ride as cars like this scare me deeply.

Is a turbo a common mod on these things ?

Sadder story is my work m8 just smashed his 500+ bhp supercharged m3 into a parked car at high speed. Both cars a write off and he was slightly over the limit which means no insurance payout, a ban, 200 hrs community and he has to pay for other car. stupid idiot and such a waste of a awesome car :(

Moral of this post, a little money can make a great car outstanding, and a few beers can ruin them forever :(

lucky to be alive and also not doing a stretch inside.

still, nice cayman, not sure about the colour though!

Fast cars scare you yet you ride a mental fast bike?

scare me silly, last one i went in was a 360 CS, and NEVER again.. was a experience I'll never forget

i think the problem is a bike you feel limits quite early in corners... but something like the CS would just go round corners like on rails and I'm guessing the speed it would let go at would be devastating.

I think he means that the front bonnet isn't an engine cover, as it's a mid engined car. :)

heh, ok I get it... I didn't even know that. I'll give the guy a slap if there is vents with no purpose...

serious quest though, where would you get airflow to IC with mid engine ?, I doubt it has some roof type scoop.

Turbo Cayman's and Boxster's are rare I believe due to the issues with getting sufficient cooling into the engine. All sorts of issues in this conversion I believe.

Sounds nice. Not where my money would go though.

I still haven't seen the answer from the other thread, wtf is a cager? I assumed as some others it was someone with a rollcage, but apparantly not?

people who drive cars, ie something with a surround.....a cage

As previous reply. I'm sure this was answered. The 'cage' is the protective enclosure of the car body.

Is that right?
Is it common for insurance companies to not pay up under those circumstances?
