As per title, I'm on the verge of buying one of these.. I was originally planning on getting a YZF-R125, but its over a grand more expensive and for a first bike, I think I felt a little bit more comfortable on the CBR.

Its £2100 for a 2007 bike with 1600 miles on the clock, 1 owner, FSH.. Thats with tax and MOT till July next year. Its a nice clean bike, no scratches or dents. Is that good or over priced?

Its just for me to ride around on for a year or so until I've built up the experience to take the DAS..

I've got one and whilst it's up there with being one of the best 125s, I don't think it's worth £2100. If I were you I'd buy one for around a grand, ride it until you feel confident then sell it on. That way you probably won't lose any money, let somebody else take the depreciation.

I'll phone them in the week I think and try and haggle on the price a little bit, see if I can get him down under 2k.. To be fair, I was fully set to spend £3300 on an R125 but kind of fell for the CBR after seeing it and sitting on it!

I've got a YBR125 for sale, £1500. Will send details/pics over email if you're interested. What interests you in the CBR, sporty look?

Was looking at the CBR when I was looking to get a bike, but felt to small, ended up buying a YZF, which I think is the better bike.

You can get YZF's £2,100-300, so why you going from a new YZF to a second hand CBR, and not considering a second hand YZF?

It was a used YZF as well, but it had alarm, immobiliser, 800 miles on the clock and over a year warranty left.. I felt the YZF was a bit big for me though which was the main thing. I'm only 5'10 but it felt a bit high and I felt more comfortable on the CBR for my first bike. I have looked around near me as well for other YZFs but within a reasonable distance they are all about £3k.

You can buy a good proper bike for £2100. Theres no such thing as a sporty 4 stroke 125 so just pass your test on whatever cheap 125 you can (YBR is perfect) then get something bigger.

Fair enough, I'm more or less the same height as you, and I have a pretty comfotable ride most times.

I got the YZF because I was looking to keep it after I pass my test, as a commuter, but had the fall back in that they were holding their value ok, if I needed to sell it. Plus I wanted something similar size to the bike I'm looking to get after it, which is looking likely to be an R6.

Only problem is that if you have a small fall on it, it WILL cost a bomb to fix, or look vile if you don't replace the fairing. I just had the YBR to get through my test, now looking for an upgrade to a more sporty faired bike.

Cost about £250 altogether to fix when I skidded it. and that was for one side fairing and 2 decals, Yamaha charge a fortune for the decal on the side fairing, lol.

As others have mentioned, all 4 stroke 250cc are crippled performance wise, let alone the 125cc. Sure the YZF 'looks' like a proper bike but its a hell of a lot of money for something that cant pull the skin off a custard.

Just buy a cheap and cheerfull 2nd hand 125 for now, find your feet, get your silly accidents over and out the way then put that cash towards a bigger bike.

As has already been mentioned, if you want a 125 to build experience on, spend as little as possible. If you spend around a grand, you'll probably be able to sell it for a grand in a years a time.

When I first started riding I dropped my bike while stationary a few days after getting it as I wasn't used to the weight. The bike itself was only £500, and had no plastic faring so didn't cost anything to fix. Had it been are cbr125, the situation would have been worse. Dropping a bike while stationary sounds daft, but it can happen :/

I hear yer!, my first bike was a ZX6R. 1st day on it, took it to fill her up, err, forgot to put down the bloody stand

Luckily I had fitted really good crash bungs and I was able to catch it and lay it down. quick look round to make sure no one saw the div that just dropped his new bike then lifted it up again :D

Lets just say accidents happen.

Having no fairing is a big advantage for a learner. I fell off mine at 15mph or so (diesel spill on corner) and it only scraped the foot peg and the plastic casing on the clock = £10 fix :)

This. I honestly can't see the point of spending a great deal on a 125 which you'll only use to practice on before you get a proper licence(well, most likely any way). Just spend less on a cheaper, more reliable bike, that won't cost the earth if you damage it, and get your practice in. And you won't need experience for DAS, the DAS is designed to be an intense course that'll be different to riding a 125. You'll no doubt pick up bad habits in your time practising since your CBT and doing a DAS. Is there any reason you can't do the DAS sooner?

use the £2100 towards the DAS and then save up for a big bike

i went down the cbr125 route and although it was fun at the time, i wish i had just gone for the DAS instead.

I was originally planning on just doing the DAS, but the missus persuaded me to spend a year on a 125 first.. Plus I think I'd rather build up my confidence on something smaller and more manageable first!

I did look at other 125s but to be honest i didn't like the look of them and I had the cash to spend so thought I might as well spend it on something I liked the look of! I hunted round this area for another CBR125 but they were all still priced around the £2k mark some with about 15k miles on! So I thought I might as well go for this one, I like the look of it and its low miles, I did manage to get £100 off the price so it wasn't too bad and I put my deposit down today! :)
