When doing your CBT you'll almost certainly be in a group of 2 (or more) learners. The instructor will continue with the cone stuff for a fair bit of time until he thinks that all the group are ready for the actual road bit.

So basically yes, unless you're lucky enough to have another learner who can ride already as well as an instructor who is willing to run through the cone stuff fast and is confident in the two of you's ability...

I'm intrigued, which school was this? I'm not all that far away from Twyford and have used 2 training schools in the area. It wasn't 3 CMT in Arborfield was it?

should do, there is a 2 hour road ride as part of the evaluation,

as well as best part of an hour on the bike controls and safety equipment before getting on a bike, so that leaves 3-5 hours for the core skills training.

seems about right.

The first time I took the CBT, it was in Feltham, West London. The instructor there does things very quickly. He must've spent about 30 minutes (max) taking the other guys out on the road.

A mate of mine also did his CBT with him and he stated that his road ride lasted about 20 minutes.

When I did my CBT in Wembley, I did a full 2 hour road ride. All the instructors there are very very strict.

Some instructors will cut corners while others will be very strict. Needless to say that if I do my full bike test, I will probably want a very lax instructor...the instructors where I did my CBT are far too strict.

I'm thinking of doing the DAS thingy now, I'm not buying another 125 only to sell it in a few months. I might be able to get my license before the TT starts too. Got my eye on an R6 I've seen.

You will want your instructors to be as strict as they can be. Your examiner will most likely be even worse than they are.

This,

my instructor was all over me, and it worked well.

also remember that if you have a lax instructor that rushes you to the test you'll probably end up paying more in test re-sits.

I did mine with this lot and was very happy with the quality

I did mine at Camrider; their policy:

"We have an optional Guarantee Scheme. Where if you don't get through on the first day, then all other training is free of charge ... you just pay for bike hire. All we ask is that you don't give up and attend all of your session as time-tabled. If we still can't get you through, we will refund every penny of your CBT fee."

£80 one-day or £120 for optional Guarantee

Seems most places have a scheme in place if it's not automatic
