CCTV At Work

if you don't want to work notice get a job for a rival software company and they will give you garding leave so you are not a threat to the company by taking sensitive information to the new company.

Is it going to have an impact on how you do your job - i doubt it. Do you do illegal things at work - i doubt that too. Have you got anything to worry about with CCTV being installed - NO. We had it installed in an office where i used to work and it caused no problems at all, no one complained either. Personally i dont see what the problem is unless of course your upto no good and are in fear of getting caught.

How is he ment to "release wind" or pick that nose without someone watching!! i mean come on, its hard enough to do it when noones around let alone do it with cameras on you and prey no one notices!! :D

The Laws may have changed from a couple of years ago but its legal to put CCTV up in your department but not to record workers while they're doing their jobs.
I remember a business man on here who said that he could only turn the CCTV on when everybody had gone home.
Also I worked at a very large factory with an amazing CCTV system that could read words on the side of boxes from 200 yards but once again the Security Guards could only use them for nightly security purposes and if there had been an accident.
Even during the last 3 months of the entire staff being made redundant they had many security issues but could not turn the CCTV on the workers.

I also believe that an employer cannot sack you if they have recorded you not working
eg : They've filmed you on CCTV posting on OCUK for 4 hours.
The film will be inadmissable and they will need other proof.

Of course things may have changed in the last few months.

IIRC they cannot use the data collection to monitor your work or timekeeping and they cannot keep the recordings for more than 2 weeks unless the police have asked them to retain the images.

I'm in the same boat, camera wise. AFAIK they can't monitor you 24/7 they can only go back to look at footage after an unsavoury event has occurred to see what actually happened.

EG someone clown kicked a porcelain toilet bowl off the wall a few weeks ago and it was known that the incident happened between 8.30 and 9.15 pm so the footage on the CCTV outside the toilet door was monitored and everyone seen entering/leaving during these times was interviewed.

Also IIRC they don't have to inform you directly but they do have to atleast put up a couple of posters informing you that there is CCTV in operation

You're filmed hundreds of times during the day from CCTV on streets, roads, shops, bars, restaurants, petrol stations etc etc etc etc etc... why should CCTV at work worry you when you're constantly filmed everywhere else you go with the exception of your own home?

Basically not much you can do about any of it.

I'm sorry, does that mean I have to be happy with it as well?

I think asking here wont really help you make any sort of sense of it, its your space you feel they've invaded with CCTV only you know how comfortable you are with it. One hand, you get your work done so what does it matter they can film you doing that? but on the other hand why is the CCTV there? dont they trust you?, I'd feel insulted.

Up to you how far you want to take it, only you can decide I'm sure you've realised all the points that have been mentioned through the thread.

Dont really see what the big deal is its probably for both monitoring you and improving security.

As long as your not doing anything you shouldnt (make up your own minds on what I ment by that :p) then really its not somethign to kick a fuss about imo.

If you feature on the tapes then you are entitled to a copy of the tapes.

You could annoy the management by requesting a copy on a daily basis.
