Those blades look a little flimsy. Wonder how they'd stand the test of time.
Ceiling fan instead of pedestal fan?

We have one in the living room and it does make a noticable difference sitting underneath/near it. The one we bought is a westinghouse portland ambience in chrome.
That looks like a monster that should be on the front of a biplane - 11kg? Do any considerations have to be taken for the ceiling supporting it, with rotational forces too?
If you walk under it and get trapped in the downforce how do you get out? Although I assume that's why it has a remote control

Certainly want to get a fixing into a joist, if they aren't near your wiring then getting up into the loft and adding sone noggins will be best.... although you'll instantly regret that in this heat

It is fantastic. It sits above the foot of our bed, so the airflow is nicely on us. The fastest setting moves a lot of air - fairly noisy, but still quieter than a normal desk or pedestal fan, and has made the warm nights recently very bearable. The middle setting is ideal most of the time, very quiet but still moves a lot of air.
However, since fitting it, I don't actually think I've ever turned if off; on it's slowest setting it's essentially silent, so even for the few weeks recently where it hasn't been warm enough to warrant needing a fan, I have just left it on slowly spinning all the time to keep the air moving, as our bedroom is a little small and stuffy. I've found it quite pleasant to have a constant slight draft of moving air, and I think I've generally slept better as a result. It also has a reversing switch would apparently aids heating during the winter.
The only downside is that our ceiling isn't particularly high, so I have to be careful if I take a shirt or jumper off in the bedroom, in case I reach up too far and lose a hand

Out of interest, are there any which don't hang as low? I was just looking at this but it's a 40cm drop from the ceiling. Is this just because you need a decent space above for the air to come from or are some a little closer to the ceiling?

I also don't get why so many fans have to be so fricking ugly! This is about the plainest i've seen and it only comes in Aluminium

Not just that but it looks like it would block a lot of airflow as the light fitting is so large.
they used to do them, as i have fans in most rooms and the living room one had a plate at the bottom which you unscrewed and fitted a normal rose to with flex to a normal light fitting. its a few years old so worth looking around and asking.
We have three Fantasia Neptune’s they come in white or silver, two fan blade sizes and can be flush fitted. Fitted flush they’re a 30cm drop to the bottom of the light and 17cm from the blades. That's why every single one has a steel wire you're supposed to attached into the ceiling void so if it does drop, it's still attached ....
Fitted a few and none had a steel wire like this.
Must be poverty ceiling fans.
Honestly, anything like that should have one

. Not sure why they would need some steel wire if you're into a joist. Besides the electrical wires will stop it hitting you
