celery or sempron?

vote for celeron, there brilliant overclockers, most now have EM64T, there cheap as chips and don't rely on timings on there DDR2 ram like the semprons do, i had a celeron D, clocked at 3.8Ghz on air, was the dogs and ran everything without any problems at all :D

The problem is were talking stock speed performance here as this pc wont be clocked. Also the equivelant Celleron (performance wise) is £22 more.

sorry but you would be dense if you didn't overclock a celeron, you would have nothing to loose, anyways there good at it, simple put, between netburst and K8 i notice absolutely no difference really in games, maybe few FPS but thats nothing important if your already getting 50 or something, semprons, athlons, opterons = over-rated IMO. (i know someone will say 'well your just stupid', but its just what i have noticed with mates pentium IV and my athlon, theres absolutely no noticable difference, he uses ATi graphics, i use nvidia, still no difference unless your so inconcievably picky

and youve totally lost the plot i see... read this from the original post.

It's going to be used with 1 stick of 512 pc3200 and for general office/net use. wont be overclocked.

its also using integrated graphics.

The Sempron 2800 on the AM2 platform combined with the asrock Nforce 4 mobo with integrated NV44 6100 i showed him is the best value for money option in this case. no clocking, no gaming.

i read the first post, but the thing that makes these low end CPUs so interesting is they can be overclocked to hell, making them a bargain if you will, or is that not the point, has this forum suddenly been replaced by some sort of alien thing? overclockers.co.uk forum, main topic people mention overclocking, bang for bucks, getting the most out of your money, or am i missing something?

well... yes it has actually...
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17600955

but that aside, not everyone comes to OCUK forums for overclocking advice, i didnt when i first joined either, also some people have many different computers, some to overclock, others are just general office work horses. you have to keep in mind that not everyone is here to overclock.

in that dire situation the sempron is the better choice yes, question think there'll be core 2 duo celeron? :p

Sempron clock very well anyway but maybe not on an asrock which is maybe why ocuk dont stock them. Gibbo did briefly mention getting the conroe compatible ones I think.
Those onboard graphics come with something like 1 pixel line, dx9 but totally hobbled, fine for windows only of course

actually it turns out they do stck a few of them, :) and contrary to popular "myth" about cheaper boards, you can clock very well indeed on an asrock, my opty 146 does 2.85 Ghz on my asrock from a stock speed of 2Ghz.
