The day is upon us. A new generation of Graphics Cards is imminent. Both AMD and Nvidia have keynotes this evening that is expected to reveal many details of their new graphic card line-ups.

Grab your favourite drink and watchalong with the OCUK crew.

AMD fires first at 7pm UK time;

To be fair they are tech enthusiasts at a new reveal, I don't think they go to have a bad time. On some level any tech advancement is exciting IMO.

That's an expensive 10 hours! Were you not happy with it?

I'd say ebay first, to uk sellers, with good feedback. If you are happy at selling at RRP or less, then here, on the members market is also an option.

To be honest I'm looking myself at the best value ones just as much as the top end ones at the moment. I'm currently using a 3050 and it's been eye opening that playing FF7 (4k max settings) and Returnal 1440p (medium settings) have been very similar experiences to playing them on my 4090. Once you get gaming you don't really notice too much difference.

There's a few very odd games that make the most of the best cards, but honestly there few and far between. Witcher 4 and GTA6 are likely the next ones and they are still miles off.

My new tv does 144hz on HDMI so that has raised the bar for me. I generally play older games (Bioshocks, Uncharteds etc) so don't necessarily *need* the best. It also depends on how much you like Ray Tracing. I'd say the games that made the most of my 4090 were Cyberpunk, Alan Wake 2 and Witcher 3. Would I get a much worse experience with a RT setting lower? Hard to say, I doubt it.

Which puts me in a good position of a 5090 been nice to have, but not essential. I'm not going to spend a grand extra over a 5080 for example. I d rather take that grand and invest it in speakers for my home theater or some such.

Yeah AMD really have potential to do well here since they are competing in the mid range, announcing pricing first and will have months on Nvidia in that bracket.

Something will go wrong, I just don't know what. Sure AMD will find a way.

If AMD do well I wonder if Nvidia will change their pricing strategy to the lower end? The 5080 can't be priced in isolation or it will eventually look terrible compared to the 5070 etc, if the latter is priced competently to match what AMD is doing.

I mentioned in the AMD thread, but I think they wil release the price and spec. They knew anything they released this morning to the press would be leaked.

If they don't, I'd be surprised and it would be a very big fail.
