CES 2025 Wishlist

I have, just now, cycled through the following monitors on my desk with an FPS game in a dim-ish room... yes, these are lying around for some reason. And yes I did get my wife to stand around and measure :o :p
  • 24.5" 1080p: comfortable in-game viewing distance = 65cm
  • 27" 1440p: comfortable in-game viewing distance = 100cm
  • 32" 1440 (curved): comfortable in-game viewing distance = 135cm
I'm kind of amazes that it scaled so proportionately?!

The 32" as my 'work productivity monitor' and when I got it, I was always umm-ing and ahh-ing over whether I actually liked it, but decided to suck it up. Going through them now, it's by far away my least favourite of the 3, for my tastes. It's just too tall and I actually felt immediately motion sick when being too close. But you do just get used to whatever you had and I'm sure that anyone could make it work for them.

27" is the best, but 24.5" wasn't bad either. What's good about both is that you can move these forwards and backwards depending on what your doing... but I personally do need a lot of distance from the 32" to feel more comfortable.

So that's me waiting for the 27" 4K OLED then... arse.

Appreciate hearing your thoughts on the topic. I've come to the same conclusion that the 27" 4K OLED (perhaps a pair of them eventually) is my ideal monitor tech/size.

So likewise I'm going to play the waiting game for a bit longer!

Having played around with my existing 32” curved screen a bit… I think I’d be ok with it… so long as I have the monitor at an angle and I’m not sitting square on my desk (with it right in front of me).

I also realised that the 32” size was only too much when playing an FPS style game with quick mouse movement. Which is not my usual sort of game, but it’s what I was playing at the time, for some reason!

will be awesome if it has a 1080p 480hz mode as well
I wonder if it'll be more likely to have the dual mode options on the WOLED equivelant if we look at what has happened this year with the 32" models.

I can't remember the roadmap off the top of my head but I'm sure WOLED 27" 4k were also set for 2025.

1440p 480hz and 4K 240hz is the ultimate dual mode scenario imo especially for 27"
It'll never be a thing though because of pixel scaling, 1080p scales perfectly from 4k where 4 pixels at 4k become 1 pixel at 1080p. Because 1440p doesn't scale into 4k you'd have to have a 5k monitor (5120 x 2880) that would drop to a 1440p for dual mode.

Unrelated but how are you finding the PG27AQDP? I'm really tempted to pre-order one (stock due in early Jan) to go back to WOLED and to try the new pixel layout for text clarity for work from home.

Well damn, sways me even more into potentially buying a Phillips OLED 34" UW today then.

Yeah I'm loving the PG27AQDP but in SDR mode :) HDR is too dim for me to tolerate - I don't like Matte displays in general, but I can live with this one happily. And 480hz is when the UFOtests you can actually read the text in motion can't do it even at 360hz so 480hz is the breaking point for quality motion clarity for my eyes anyway.

I’m currently using a 27” monitor at 4k without scaling for work. Text is tiny but I like it. Even my iPhone feels like a potato now with its fisher-price text size :p

I think anything less will feel like potato-mode now… but it is probably less important for games than reading text etc… maybe.

I wish my eyes were still that good. I don't use or need glasses but my vision isn't t good enough to be comfortable reading text on 4k 27inch at 100% windows scaling, I can probably still read the text but it will strain my eyes and make them tired. Also a factor is that I like sitting a decent distance from my monitor - they say the correct distance is 1 arm length but I prefer sitting 1.5 arm lengths away from my monitor

At a company I worked for some years ago, there was one guy who must had some serious vision problems; he wasn't blind but he must have been close I guess - he worked at a desk but they gave him a TV screen for a monitor and it looked like he had windows scaling maxed out or something, each letter was huge and he would sit super close to the screen as well

I have the 27” 4k monitor pretty close for work and browsing, but it’s got to go wayyyy back for FPS games… I’d feel sick with it that close!

As I think I said earlier in the thread, I have to get about 135cm away from a 32” to feel comfortable with an FPS game.

So 27” with a monitor arm to bring it forward and back seems like optimum for me… but I could probably make do with a 32” if the 27” OLEDs are slow to come out.

… I’m just hoping that the Alienware version doesn’t come out ages before the others. It’s just a bit cringe to see that ‘Alienware’ logo :o
