Bah, i was hoping for a proper freak out but it's ok. Big director, doesn't mean speaking in front of an audience can't be terrifying, I don't think I could do it with the teleprompter working. Can't stand his films and kinda nice to see him look a fool, but I can understand it for sure.
They didn't really show the holodeck thing in the AMD conference, I think they cut to Levar Burton and the stream went blank because the feed from the holodeck to the main stage didn't work right but not sure. He came on the main stage to talk about it a bit. It seems like they put up a 360 degree dome and had images projected onto the screen, a 32.4 speaker sound setup(I swear I heard her say that but it sounds insane). I was literally imagining the setup and a box of firepro's or something in a rack all running it so was very surprised when she mentioned it was all running off a single firepro card with a Kaveri and the trueaudio was doing surround sound and doing calculations for gesture control. It was some full surround gesture control, you could move monsters of some kind around, and move instruments(it sounded like) around to see/follow the sound moving around. IE use gesture control to grab a trumpet and move it around you and hear it playing music from the exact location.
Sounds kind of cool, maybe completely pointless, but still impressed that it all ran on a single discrete gpu.
