... yet another person has bought a PS3 this week.

Quite excited as this is my entry to what i would call 'true' next gen consoles (i love my Wii but its not quite the same if you get what i mean).

I'm going to be buying Drakes Fortune and Devil May Cry 4 asap - are there any other recommendations? Warhawk looks fantastic as does Burnout Paradise. Also I'm considering getting the Blu-Ray remote, however after the crapulence that was the PS2 DVD remote i'm dubious, is this worth the purchase?

I'm looking to pick up a DS3 controller pretty soon too, what sort of price should i be aiming for?

And finally, i've got a 20" samsung pebble (HDCP compliant), if i bought a DVI->HDMI converter would this work correctly? The monitor is 16:10 and i'm worried it would stretch the image to fit the monitor which obviously isn't ideal, or will it just leave black borders at the top and bottom?

The remote is well made this time round. Works well and it's bluetooth so doesn't need to face the machine! Worth getting one imo! Makes watching films a lot easier. :)

Pay £35 tops for the DS3.

Your HDMI>DVI thing should work as your monitor as HDCP compliant. The stretching will depend on the monitor so don;t buy an expensive cable/adaptor (You can get what you want in cable form for a fiver).

Loads of other games to mention, but what you have listed will easily keep you busy for a while, get some games of Playstation Netwok to keep you busy as well (Super Stardust HD, Tekken 5: Online, PixelJunk Monsters to name a few). For disc games, apart from the ones you mentioned the last 2 really great games I played on ps3 were Ratchet and Clank and Heavenly Sword.

I noticed a certain super market sells a HD lead, it consists of a HDMI lead with a DVi adapator with some other bits and bobs for £20, not sure on quality but its an OK price and you dont have to wait for it.

Seems a lot of people are starting to overlook the Xbox360 now, not entirely sure why, but if this forum is any indication I'd expect the PS3 to be pulling away.

hmmmm well if the PC section of the forum is an indicaton of joe public than the average PC gamer would have OC'd Quad, 8800 and 4gb of ram ;)

I will be looking to add a PS3 to my collection for blueray although I can not see my gamer friends ditching the 360 :p

HOWEVER for a first time buyer of a next gen console I do agree the ps3 is very tempting now :)

The PC market is different to the consoles. If you want a proper games console then you have the choice of PS3 or Xbox360, so it's not the same as picking a lot of different components.

Personally I would happily get rid of my PS3 to get an XBox360, but I would never get rid of my Xbox360 to get a PS3. Maybe in 18 months, but sure as hell not now.

As a value for money proposition the PS3 looks very attractive at the moment with it's blu-ray player. The 360 desperately needs a price cut to bring it to £199.99 in store for a Premium.

the Ps3 is the more complete package, maybe only on couple of things but blu-ray included and at the same price as an Elite and normally a lot less noise with a good software lineup this year is starting to sway people. The 360 does indeed need a price drop now to keep momentium

I have a very good pc for gaming, but am very bored with pc games. Only 3 titles that spring to mind that I enjoyed a lot last year. (Company of Heroes, Team Fortress 2, COD4). I think the PC market is very stagnent atm.

So I bought a ps3! In my mind it is super value over the xbox, I mean built in wireless & blu-ray player to start! and free online play!

I wanted to move away from PC gaming so a 360 was the only logical choice. The PC/360 games Mass Effect and Bioshock are just too good to miss. I can fully understand someone with a good PC getting a PS3 to compliment it though.

The PS3 is actually starting to look like a reasonable purchase.

Mine spent it's first 8 months following launch pretty much turned off, but is now starting to see a fair amount of play time.

Drake's Fortune and Warhawk are my two tips.

It isn't just this forum, 2 others I visit regularly are showing increased posts of xbox to PS3 migration. I'm still undecided so I'm going to wait until the upcoming expo (what's it called again?) and see if any new models are announced

Just a quick question about Warhawk.

I'm thinking about getting it tonight but was just wondering how easy it is to get an online game? I've found it patchy to get a game on Tekken and was wondering if it was just this game or all PS3 games.

Thanks

Its a lot easier now its been patched, if you play on the official ones they have SCEE in front they are all dedicated servers (some non Sony ones are also) see http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/08/08/behind-the-curtain-the-warhawk-servers/
for more detail. Warhawk is great i've played Battlefield for years from 1 to 2142 and it was never as much fun as this game, its very well balanced and if your are on foot, vehicles, turrets or aircraft you never feel disadvantaged if you know what you are doing.

Very easy, sometimes on peak hours it takes three tries to find a spot on a server but that's it.

I have not got a DVD remote as I have a very good DVD recorder I play my DVD's on and tbh if I watch a Blu Ray the controller is fine, I start the movie and do nothing else with it besides watch the movie.

The games I enjoyed mostly are Motorstorm, Warhawk, Ratchet&Clank:Future, DiRT, Drake's Fortune and Burnout Paradise.

:o
Uninspiring environments, dodgy animation, poor weapons, flight based around dodgy Six-Axis tech, (that you actually have to turn off to compete), average vehicles.

The only compliment I would pay Warhawk is that it's fast, but all too often you're stranded. The maps are so rubbish though.

I told ya, this time next year the pro 360 will have had a complete reversal and this will be a pro PS3 forum.

The 360 premium or even an elite needs to be at around £180 NOW to reverse the trend. The Arcade at around £100. I'm sure if it wasn't for the failures that's where MS would have had the price right now. Live now needs to be free.

It's Blu Ray thats won it for them. Now it looks like a definate winner for the first time since it's release I've thought I may as well get a player. Now I can either buy a PS3 40gb for £250 or a standalone Blu-Ray for £250. Also with the death of another 360 it leaves me without even a dvd player under the tv. I have a lot more faith that the PS3 will be reliable.

No contest.

If I hadn't invested money is so much 360 add on stuff I would migrate fully. It's the guitars, plug and play kits etc that all rack up so it's not worth me selling on anymore. The Control pad is also going to keep me using the 360.

Microsoft are going to need a new console inside of 2 years. By christmas 08 the 360 is buried by the PS3. Maybe not on the games front but certainly with the sales.
