Challenge: Spec me a gaming machine for less than £400

Ok thanks guys. Hey icysniper, which do you think is the better option. Your spec or arctine's. Im inclined to go with yours becuase it has a newer and hopefully more speedy video card in it but his has a faster CPU?

The 4870 1gb is WAY faster than a 5750 512mb or even the 1gb version.

it depends if you want to use direct X 11 in the future tbh, the cpu's are very similar, so its future proofing it, and whether not you are gonna use DX 11 :)

Yeah but the 5750 is ATI's entry level dx11 card where as the 4870 is one of their high end dx10.1 cards. You will be able to run any game in dx10.1 for at least a year, probably more. What's the point in getting a slow dx11 card when you can get a fast dx10.1 card and still play the same games?

So far i agree with icysniper because that 5750 is MORE than capable than for what I want it for I was only expecting crysis at lowest settings with a med/high resolution with a 350-400 quid build and I dont really want to upgrade in a year so... y'know.

In which case if you really want a dx11 card this one's better :

(and you get a free crappy doll :P)

yeh tbh its how long you want this spec to last, if you want a longer lasting one, mine is probably better as its a newer card, yes i agree the 4870 is faster, but it will come outdated quicker, which means you will need to buy a new card, if you have my spec, you can just buy another 5750 and crossfire them which will give a performance boost :)

It's basically the next card up to the one icysniper suggested.

Lol, there you go, take your pick. AMD or Intel, i think either way you'd be good to go.

You say 'Don't support' and im sorry if this is a really nooby question but does that mean I can still play themin DX10 right?

Yeah, Just watching some reviews of the card. Sapphire HD5750 will run Resident Evil five DX10 1920x1200 at around 50-60 fps. I dont know what graphic settings it had. HD5770 will run it about 10fps more either way.

yeh 10 more fps can be very useful so it would be better to choose the 5770, it just depends on AMD or Intel for the processor now :)

Is it worth getting the amd just cause its faster?

And also I just had a gut feeling... do amd processors work better with ati cards or is that just a modern myth.

i thought the intel was slightly faster, but i dont know enough to really tell. With the ati cards, all the top end machines are running the intel i7 with an ati 5850/5870 and they're running it fine, so i think its a modern myth otherwise everyone would be talking about it a lot more :)
