As some of you know i have been hunting for the perfect MX-5, one thing i have forgot to do is look for insurance properly, in regards to a Eunos Roadster (Jap MX-5) at least.

Now the best quotes i have come up with are much higher than a UK model i.e £1200 w/ £750 excess vs £800 w/ £350 excess (fully comp).

Now the challenge, whoever gets a quote for me below £1000 i will give £20 to, cash, cheque whatever is best for you, that simple.

And in the event that someone gets a lower quote afterwords, i will give them £10 as well.

So £30 on the table who wants a stab.

use moneysavingexpert.com insurance guide.
Failing that, call Adrian Flux and speak to them, they are supposed to be good with imports.

Oh, and if you are a pistonheads member (free signup), u geta 15% discount from adrian flux too.

Continueation to above, A lot of specific car forums will have insurance schemes with specific contact details.

Maybe look around UK mx5 forums see what they have to offer,

Being an import shouldn't be an issue really. Jez got NU to quote the same on a UK and Jap s2000.

Chris Knott open at 09:00 I think so let me know how you get on. They are used by the mx5 and s2000 crowd extensively because they are so competitive in that area of the Market

With your driving experience you'll be lucky to drop below £1k. Seriously. As a couple of people have mentioned already though, I used Chris Knott this year and it saved me a small fortune. My insurance last year was £1800. This year £750. Granted I have 3 less points, 1 less accident and 1 more years no claims but that's still a good difference! I say give them a bell and see what they can do for you, but I still think you're going to struggle.

Try admiral group and be done with it. So thats Admiral, Elephant, Bell and Diamond. They are 99% of the time the cheapest for MX5's. I paid £1k at 20 with 2NCB on my 1.8 Eunos and i'm with Bell.

Admiral gave a stupid one but don't know your occupation. Oh also you want to get your mum or grandma on there. I did both and it reduced mine by £300.

this ive ben with admiral since owning my mx5 no body can touch their quotes.

Best i can come up for an import is about 1.7k. You've only had a licence for few months which is seriously putting the price up.

I found £995 for a uk Mx-5 1.6i on TPFT. Fully comp £1037
I found £1054.67 for a uk Mx-5 1.8i on TPFT. Fully Comp £1081

Also maybe consider lowering your mileage. lowering it to 5k a year comes up with the following

£938.36 for a uk Mx-5 1.8i on TPFT. Fully Comp £977.72

Imports put it up a fair bit, and because you have next to no experience its going to be even more expensive.

I'll say you've found a blooming good quote for £1200 fully comp tbh. Stick with that. The lack of experience is really making the price shoot up, as is the import factor.

I'm finding the relatively recent trend for TPFT and Fully Comp premiums to differ by just a few quid a bit confusing. Insurance companies clearly regard the risk of young drivers causing massive damage to other people/cars/property greatly outweighs the risk of them just writing off their own car, which I'm not convinced is completely true, IME.

For the last few years, fully comp has been cheaper than TPFT for me, by the order of a few hundred quid. Work that one out.

I guess these days they assume the kind of person who takes out TPFT is ***** scum who doesn't give a damn about their car or what they hit.

Even my £275 Volvo is on Fully Comp because of this.
