Challenge! Win £20 note from me

Hi guys, just got home, will give a few of those a try, bell came back with 850 on a Uk car with my parents on and a £350 excess, and i'm a civil servant.

import through bell was the £1200 quote, but as said before an eye watering excess.

Might stick with the Uk spec tbh, although the offer still stands.

Don't forget to try the other 3 Admiral companies! For me between the 4 companies it ranged about £250.

Oh forgot to add a UK Turbo was only £50 more than a UK N/A i.e. £900ish

Weird how insurance works.

Also seeing as how sub £1000 is more of a pipe dream on a Eunos than 1st realised, i will now pay £50 to the person who gets me a quote sub £1000 on a Eunos with a sub £600 excess including 2 adults if need be, who have held licences over 20 years with no points.

we arn't holding out on you becuase you only offered £20. All the quotes I have run for you are way above your 1k dream.

Sorry mate, either choose a different car or get deeper pockets :(

I tried the 20 year license second driver earlier and it didnt help your case from what I saw, halving your mileage might.

Does excess matter if the accident isnt your fault. You should drive extra carefull for a year anyway what with it being rwd and all :p

Only if you let your own insurance company handle the claim afterwards, rather than a company like Drive Assist or HelpHire.

And that is why the prices are so high, because people don't. Though if an insurance company really wanted to put the effort in, they'd give lower quotes for n00b RWD drivers at this time of year, rather than, say, in November as that seems to be the start of the culling season for cheap RWD cars.

Whys that? Most peoples insurance runs for a whole year.
And a whats the issue with rwd cars? I know they are different to drive and there is a learning curve but most non hatchback cars were rwd up until the mid 1980's and you didn't get people dying in their millions come rainfall, its just what you are used to and appreciating what you can and cannot do with a particular drivetrain, and the mx-5 is hardly rapid.

I think a UK MX5 is the way forward to be honest, but in the grand scheme of things its not too bad, i was getting quotes of £1600 on 1 litre fiestas at 17.

Well I don't follow the MX-5 quite so much but on SXOC the cheaper ones are now under a grand and are starting to fall into the hands of teenagers, Novermber - Februrary seems to be the season for n00bs buying these things and stacking them a few months later. At least if you get to drive them in a drier time of the year you'd build up enough experience that you might not stack it in the first heavy rainfall.

You are right that it's just what you are used to. The OP is 22 and thus will be used to FWD cars. The insurance companies have identified that new(ish) drivers getting into an RWD car for the first time have a high probability of stacking it, and thus their rates reflect this. The older generation would have learned to drive in RWD cars, taken their test in an RWD car and then bought something RWD as their first car, so they know what they are doing.

You are odd, aren't you...

Have you tried all the price comparison sites?

tescocompare.com
confused.com
comparethemarket.com
etc

Recently I've had some fantastic quotes from the insurers using tescocompare.com

Best quotes I get is myself as the main driver and adding my mum as a named driver. Adding my dad or sister bumps the price up.

 Why does it cost so much more to get insurance for an import ??

Imports are a higher risk as they are a bit of an unknown to the insurers. The spec is different, they are not designed for UK roads and the parts are more expensive as they have to be sourced from Japan or wherever. This also pushes up the cost of things like hire cars while you are waiting for parts.

Try sky insurance, tell them you are a member of mx5 nutz.

Don't worry about the rwd thing my first car was an mx5 at 18 and I still have it 7 years later and only time I spun it accidently was 6 months ago but was just after a drift day and was being foolish on a damp road with naff tyres without trying hard (ie being a moron) they handle very safely

What sort of discount do you get for nutz owner?

I can only come close to insuring an import for 1.2k if you pay an £1250 excess, and only drive 1000 miles a year.

Seriously, you won't find a quote for under £1000. Why don't you just buy a uk model?
I can easily find insurance for under £1000 if you bought one of the following cars:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/963398.htm

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/900572.htm (Its got a few mods tho)

P.S. I've spent a few hours trying all the different sites i know and can't come close with an eunos. Can i have £50 tho plzz.
